Couldn't fault it,staff are friendly and very helpful, the room was perfect with glorious sea views from the spacious balcony, the dinner was delicious and the evening cabaret was top class, slept peacefully in very comfortable bed, then excellent choice of beautifully cooked breakfast in the morning. Will definitely look forward to a return visit.

Arrived 1st April for a 2 night stay. Room was clean, had lovely toiletries, tea/coffee and shortbread. Bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept it (or was it the beautiful sea air and peacefullness?) The view from the balcony was stunning and the perfect place to watch incredible sunsets. Couldn't believe we were able to sit out... More

We are just returning from a break at the Putechan and have had a fantastic stay. We had a sea facing room that was spotlessly clean, very nicely furnished and had lovely touches( Arran aromatics toiletries). As well of course breath taking views. Breakfast and dinner were both great.

Arrived 21st March for a 2 night stay. Principal room was lovely and had fantastic views. After a walk on the beach we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. Woke up next morning to discover that overnight snow storms had knocked out all power to Kintyre peninsula and closed the roads. Hotel had no heating, lights or communication with outside... More

When we arrived on a very cold afternoon, there was no central heating as the Manager seemed to be the only person who could turn the boiler on and he/she wasn't there. When it did come on fairly soon after we arrived it was very, very noisy. No way could you sleep with that noise in the bedroom, so we... More

Lovely location - right on the coast with lovely sea views from all front facing rooms (windows could do with a wash however). The style of the bedrooms is modern/minimalistic (love it) with good bed linen, lots of closet space with lovely wooden hangers, FANTASTIC shower pressure and a wonderful sea view. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Putechan Hotel is a former Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge dating from 1872. It lies on the western edge of Kintyre facing the dramatic Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the Isles of Islay, Jura and Gigha, together with incredible sunsets. It is surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing pebble beach, strewn with giant rocks for our customers to enjoy. Take a walk along the beach or perhaps a BBQ while looking out for the dolphins and minke whales. The hotel, now under new ownership, has been extensively refurbished and extended, and can now offer a variety of bedrooms to suit different tastes and pockets; from the bridal suite with roll-top window bath looking out to Jura and Islay and balcony facing the ocean, our 1st floor premier rooms with balconies, ground floor doubles with sea views and a linked disabled room. We can also offer more budget accommodation in our rear facing rooms and ‘bunk rooms’. We also have a fully refurbished and extended Venue catering for a variety of events from weddings (up to 120 seated). Attached to the south wing is the sensational ‘Rock Room’ with one whole wall formed by a massive rock with French doors to the rear and front with stunning views over the ocean. The room seats around twenty and could be used for meetings, smaller intimate weddings, yoga/fitness work-outs, business meetings, or an exhibition hall for local artists. Tell us what event you want to run and we will make sure it is one to remember. The south-facing courtyard is a natural sun-trap and looks over onto the private beach. With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
