Checking in at the Plas Derwen you get the impression that management and staff have spent all day eagerly awaiting your arrival. I have never experienced such a welcome anywhwere else in the world. This hospitality continued throughout my stay. The rooms are huge, comfortable and well equipped if a bit plain. I did not eat there but the food... More

I recently visited the Plas Derwen for the first time with my husband and we were both very impressed. I had a steak which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the fish pie which was very tasty. As much as we enjoyed the food it was the service that made the difference. The staff were polite, friendly and... More

The Plas Derwen is in a lovely location, easy to get to and a big enough carpark. The bar area have sofas making it a relaxing environment. I have had my meal in the conservatory which has always been a lovely area, and never too close to the table next to you. In the summer, the garden is the perfect... More

We have visited The Plas Derwen on many occassions in the hope that the meals would get better but its now come a time when we can sadly no longer live in hope further than ham, egg,& chips. Our last visit was dreadful to the point of returning a meal. Staff have come complacent, talking loudly about their personal lives infront... More

We stayed here by accident and have been going back at least once a year since. Rooms in the block outside are superb- very well appointed, nicely furnished, clean - comfortable beds. The staff here are so very friendly and helpful. Relaxed atmosphere, good pub grub and some great beers Excellent location for Abergavenny or any of the surrounding area More

My mum and I visited South Wales in April 2012 for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. We stayed at Plas Derwen for 3 nights while we made a trip down memory lane. My mum is blind and has difficulty walking so it was important to find an appropriate facility. On arrival we were directed to the annex (round the... More

Went to Plas Derwen a few weeks ago on a sunday night arrived at 7.30am so not late with my husband and a friend. Was given the menu then they proceeded to tell us what was not available which was nearly all of it, there were three things still available chicken salad, a salmon dish and rump steak, my husband... Stayed at the Plas Derwen while in Wales on a walking weekend, very comfortable, clean and spacious rooms. The food was good especially the breakfast.Tony and Linda were welcoming and very accomodating, nothing appeared to be too much trouble. I would definately recommend this as a place to stay. More

The Plas Derwen menu changes regularly using seasonal ingredients, locally sourced, to create interesting dishes. As well as being a good food destination, it is a great place to visit for just a drink. The decor combines modern design with traditional charm and there is a conservatory style restaurant or you can eat out under giant umbrellas in summer. There... More

Food was expensive and disappointing. Steaks were supposed to be medium and were dry and curled up - Duck was tough. staff disappeared during meal and when they asked if everything was OK we said we were disappointed they just smiled and brought the bill. Will not be eating here again. More
