This hotel is by far the worst I have ever stayed in. Good points. 1. Location. Very close to pubs , bars and restraunts but if you are after a good nights sleep or have young children then the noise when everyone leaves the clubs etc is extra loud. Bad points. 1. No parking. there is a multi storey car... More

City Express in the centre of Newcastle is clean and it is cheap. That's the total of the good points. If you have stayed in apartments and have got use to some being scant in the resources they provide whilst others go over the top to make your stay great, then stand by to be disappointed by booking this "apart-hotel".... From the outside the hotel looks a bit questionable but the room is clean and has plenty of space for 4 girls getting ready for a night out :)... Staff were friendly.. literally 5 min walk from the train station and about £4 in a taxi to the pubs. Only problems were that it was a bit over priced really... More

Lets start with the positives....I was running the Great North Run and needed to stay in a hotel close to city centre; the city express was well located and within walking distance from both the train station and the city centre. The staff were friendly and the overall cleanliness of the "hotel" was good. thats about as far as the... More

Very basic accomodation - kitchen is really a microwave on a shelf, very basic bathroom with poor water pressure, electric heaters in rooms that are freezing without them on. Nice old building but the owners need to invest in new plumbing and upgrade of heating and bathrooms. This could be a hotel that could charge £80-£100 a night easily if... More

We are in this "hotel" at the moment and are quite staggered by how appalling it is. I'm reviewing as a person who is quite happy in a Travelodge and is unworried by climbing stairs. We are in room 18, which is right at the top of the building.  We have: - two large frosted glass windows opposite the end... More

in all fairness to the negative reviews it must be said that the hotel feelslike a seedy establishment on entry (i mean, paisley pink wallpaper? weird smell? and more intimidatingly, the horde of security cameras?). Once you get over that, however, it becomes slightly better. There is free wireless, which, though slightly dotty (and is annoying especially when you're trying... More

We booked over the internet and thought we had booked the Holiday Inn Express - our hearts sank when we saw the City Express it looks really scruffy outside and you enter into a drap corridor and walk up narrow stars to a small office that is the reception - the staff member was very friendly and dealt with us... Again I just needed somewhere in Newcastle Centre for a quick business trip. I usually can find a good guesthouse in the cities and towns I visit, but Newcastle is tricky. My firms travel budget allows me up to £125pn plus meals, but as this would be directly charged to my clients I try and find decent, but more modest... More
