A genuine coaching inn situated in the centre of historic Shrewsbury with its mediaeval houses and narrow shuts that is full of character. Staff were a bit grumpy on arrival, but the room was really clean and cosy. The hotel only has three stars, but this is probably because they don't have ironing boards, superfast broadband and fluffy slippers. Don't... More

Looked a nice place on the internet and a grade 1 listed bilding and some history should be worth trying for sunday lunch we thought. Sadly like so many restaurants/hotels no welcome when you arrive and walking up and down reception looking for the washroom wont illicit a response from reception. The fact is no one seems interested if you... More

Found the Hotel with no problems. On-site parking - Free and Secure - a good start!! Check-in, smooth and efficient. We stayed in Room 205 at the front of the Hotel. Room was spacious and comfortable - well decorated and spotlessly clean. Usual tariff at £110 per night B&B was a bit steep in my opinion. We were attending a... More

Friday night meal in the restaurant was an truly memorable event, good menu, excellent service with very helpful and friendly staff. Happily recommend to anyone wanting an enjoyable food experience. Past bar lunches with friends have also been excellent. More

Having booked afternoon tea at the Lion Hotel for out festive family get to together we were left disappointed. The venue is lovely with open fires and relaxing chairs, having a lounge area to ourselves was great but this room suggested no notion of it being christmas. Our percieved festive indulgencies were spoiled by the way we were served and... More

We stayed at The Lion on business. They were very friendly and the service was excellent. The food in the restaurant was very good and eggs bendict for breakfast was very well done. Some how they managed to break the key to the room door, we had asked for a room at the front, this had tremendous character but no... More

Visited the restaurant on Christmas Eve for lunch. The menu choice was the first disappointment. Very little in the way of choice, given that it was Christmas Eve. The staff are exceptionally rude, unskilled and have the surly attitude that they are there to do you a favour. The worst points were: waitress came over to take our food order... More

Just stayed for 4 days at the Lion Hotel with a group of friends we did enjoy but it was somewhat spoiled when the hotel ran out of real aleon Christmas eve. As this was what most of the men in our party would drink they were not impressed when told there was no more and no further deliveries until... More

Ate at the Lion for our office Christmas lunch on Friday 16 Dec. Extremely dissappointing experience and I think we all left feeling a little "ripped off" . 3 course lunch was £20.00 paid for well in advance. Started with soup which was nice and came with small bread rolls but when the mains came out we continued to wait... More

Our office Christmas lunch, eagerly anticipated with high hopes because we were paying more for it than we usually do, was the most disappointing ever. To start with the room was unwelcoming and we had to provide out own table decorations. The starter was passable but the main course was deperately bad. The traditional turkey was a couple of slices... More
