A beautiful old hotel in a sleepy little town. The service is excellent and the staff is quite helpful. The town is like something right out of a Charles Dickens novel. More

have stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past and always foundit comfortable and welcoming. Some of the suites are especially good. The breakfasts are superb. An excellent base for Blenheim Palace. More

We stayed for a very romantic night, the room was lovely and everything was just as we expected. However, the next day for breakfast we were served mouldy bread, of which was very quickly replaced. We then found a wine cork from a previous occupant. Certainly not what you expect for the money you're paying. In all the ambiance and... More

My husband and I arrived on a bright but cold winter's afternoon to a warm and welcoming reception. Our comfortable room was across the courtyard from the main hotel building, and had been recently refurbished in subtle Farrow and Ball-esque shades - the towels were thick and the sheets, sumptuous and crackley. Our 2 night deal included Dinner which was... More

Stayed for several nights to attend a wedding in Oxford/Blenheim Palace. Staff was courteous and attentive, room was large and well appointed, and the walk to the Blenheim grounds was lovely. Excellent breakfast spread and well-appointed in-room tea cupboard. More

The Bear is EXACTLY what it should be; try as I might I simply cannot fault it. Perfect location in the centre of the town and looking like the front of a Dickens novel. From checking in to departing it ticked every box expected and I concur with all the positive postings other contributors have made. Service – ALL the... More

We stayed for one night. We arrived early and David was pleased to get us into our room early which was lovely. The room was lovely and warm and clean, superb!! The fireplace and beams gave it real character. Breakfast was lovely with a huge range served very very promptly, small things were very very prompt tea and toast to... More

A really excellent experience. Our room (room 17) had been renovated to a very high standard. The food was really excellent (congratulations to the chef) despite the tired decoration of the dining room. Service was friendly and welcoming. A wonderful location. Excellent value (£188 dinner bed and breakfast for 2 adults and a child). We will return with friends. More

Stayed here over the Christmas period, the location is lovely in a village just behind Blenheim Palace. The hotel is kept clean and the staff are very friendly and very accommodating of your needs. Facility wise the hotel does not have much to offer in terms of daytime pursuits although based on the average age over 70 of the guests... More

This is the 5th year we have spent at the Bear for Christmas and we have booked again for 2012. Need I say more? Really excellent service from friendly but not over familiar staff. Very good food and superb accommodation. 5 minute walk to Blenheim Palace with excellent walks in the grounds. Sam Aziz is a very professional manager with... More
