This £120 a night hotel is rather tired really. I read the reviews after booking, shame as they were right. Some of the lights in the room were not working, the shower door was only held on by one runner, the taps and lights were lose.... ETC. That said it has a great location and the owner/manager is really very... More

I was booked to stay here by a company I was working for and if I had made the booking myself I would have stayed elsewhere! Plus points: - Good location for Brookes University, Magdalen College and the JR Hospital. - Easy to find and walkable to the City centre Negatives: Some of the rooms are in an annexe and... More

I read a number of reviews (ranging from good to frightful) before booking my one night stay for business in early February 2012. I paid £85 for a single for B&B. One might expect pretty high quality facilties and service, but one needf to understand the price is set in relation to the hotel market for central Oxford (typically £100+).... More

This was the worst place I ever nearly stayed! We were shown to our double room by a guy who looked like a vagrant. Upon inspecting the facilities I was speechless. The room was filthy, crammed and stank. The blue wool bedspread was stained and crumpled and the carpet was sticky. The bathroom featured dirty, cracked tiles, toilet with broken... More

I wanted something different than a big business hotel. Found this old inn at the internet with a location very close to the place of my meeting. The single room was very small. The bathroom was new, but there were problems with the water pressure in the shower (solved during my stay). The TV did not work, but the internet... More

I have stayed at the Old Black Horse several times over the years (and when I was a student at the University, my parents stayed their several times), but I think I have finally given up on it. The good things (and reasons I have put up with it so long): (i) it is the most centrally located hotel in... More

This basil Fawlty look good! First impression it was dark and gloomy inside, we were then shown to "our" room. there was a nightie on the bed, we then noticed shoes, a suitcase, clothes in the wardrobe and personal items in the bathroom, we were in some one elses room. The guy on duty apologised and showed us to the... More

Two nights in this place was more than enough! On arrival you have to check in at the bar, which is a little annoying while the staff are serving drinks to customers and then you have to give your private details to the staff in earshot of strangers! The stairs up to the rooms are rickety and old and the... More

The Old Black Horse is an over-priced B&B, shabbily furnished and urgently in need of a major make-over. This, in my view, is precisely the kind of place that leaves foreigners complaining that accommodation in the UK is expensive and of poor quality, and makes Britons wish that they had taken a trip abroad instead of visiting one of England's... Room smelled of cigarettes. Disgusting stains on the carpet. Abutting the front yard of the pub and the road, so obnoxiously loud until very late. Shower ran alternating twenty-second bursts of hot and cold water. No Internet provided in the room. Staff generally unhelpful and at times quite rude. A TRUE RIP-OFF. More
