We had an amazing stay. We were made to feel most welcome with tea/coffee and homemade flapjacks on arrival in the lounge enjoying a welcome open fire. Room was large with lovely views and an en suite bathroom with shower and freestanding bath. All was so clean with fluffy towels. Nothing was too much trouble and the extra touches including fresh milk and mineral water in the fridge were a bonus. Superb breakfast with good choice. Would love to return and thoroughly recommend to everyone.

Such a friendly warm welcome from all of the staff here. Special shout out to Chris who made us feel so at home and was so helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is a beautiful old place, comfy and relaxing. Would definitely recommend to other travellers

Room Tip:It’s quite remote so be prepared for that. But that in itself was a selling point for me

Wow - this place was fantastic. Our future daughter in law booked two rooms at Stanshope Hall for my wife, my mother and myself for one night before their three day wedding festivities commenced on a nearby farm. Thank you Joanna. An imposing place, you enter and are met by I assume the owner who immediately asked us if we wanted tea, led us to a lovely reception room with large comfortable sofas by a fire and served not just pots of tea but homemade flapjacks and macaroons as well. A wonderful welcome. There are three rooms, we originally had an ensuite with what would have been my first ever roll top bath but we swapped with my mother (next time Chris for that roll top) who would have struggled with the few steps that lead to the extremely cosy suite comprised of a smaller but very comfortable bedroom. There is a comunal fridge for the three rooms where the hosts had provided a pint of milk, cans of sparklling water and bottles of still. Lovely touches. As for breakfast...wow...your order is taken on arrival and you can tailor make your perfect breakfast which for me includes a slice of black pudding on top of your breakfast staples and also means no baked beans (love them but not in a breakfast scenario). This place was absolutely perfect. I have not stayed in a B & B like this for years as I am lazy and usually make do with a Premier Inn. My now daughter in law was far more discerning and I am so grateful. I will make more of an effort to seek out these hidden away gems in future. …

Comfortable room with fine views of the superb Derbyshire countryside, a bit north of Ashbourne. Charming sitting room for guests. Excellent breakfast. Near a number of major attractions, including Haddon Hall. Gracious hostess.

We can only agree with all the comments posted. We stayed in the stripe room. Plenty to eat, quiet, big room, comfy bed. The guest lounge had beautiful quirky hand painted walls. It is in an isolated place but the village of Ilam is only a couple of miles away with national trust park and walk. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best. It was difficult for us to get on the house Wi-Fi and we had no telephone coverage at all during our stay even though we are on two different networks. If eating out it is best to book. We used the Royal Oak near Ashbourne 7 miles away.

What a lovely place to stay. Had a two day break and what a lovely place to stay. Naomi and her staff were so friendly and welcoming. We had the light supper on the first night which was served in the quaint drawing room, what a delicious supper it was too home made soup followed by open sandwiches and scones followed by home made cake, wonderful. We had stayed in the striped room which was very nice with a modern en suite. Managed to get a few long walks in between the showers. The hall is set in a peaceful location and so quiet at night, the only fault would be that the weather could have been better, but maybe on our next visit it will be better.

Me and a couple of friends stayed here for a night, we were doing some hiking. It is a beautiful and characterful old building in a stunning location, and the owner is very friendly and cannot do enough for you. We had a fantastic breakfast, and it was served by a lovely young lady, who again, couldn't have been more helpful.

My only regret is I never arrived sooner…utterly beautiful place with a fabulous atmosphere. Beautiful furniture and spotless to boot! The breakfast (I went full English) was very nice. Just wish I could have stayed longer …
