This guest house is very special. It is a lovely building steeped in history with a chapel hidden from view, a cafe, a tea garden, games room and plenty of character. We had a lovely stay. We would stay here again.

Excellent location, 5 mins from station, and 10 mins to most places in city centre. Close to Micklegate bar and city walls. I stayed in St Luke, one of the non en suite rooms, but didn't ever need to queue for bathrooms etc. Room was quite narrow, but not poky. And faced the courtyard, so traffic noise not a problem.... This was one of the few places that offered a night (instead of the minimum 2 nights stay) in the heart of York. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay - comfortable room with an excellent en-suite. Comfortable, warm, very reasonably priced and a good breakfast. If what somewhere friendly with atmosphere then this is the place. I had a made a mess of my booking with the dates, the people at Bar Convent could not have done more to help me out. The best thing about the Bar Convent is the people that work there.

The location is about 5min walk from the train station & near city centre. Room is clean, breakfast is great & the staff are friendly too. One thing that they should improve is their wifi signal within the room.

If you want something a bit different than a big chain hotel this place is ideal.If you want all mod cons its not for you. Quiet,clean and comfortable,near the city centre. It wouldnt be everyones cup of tea,as it is based in a working convent,but it is unusual. I would recommend.

Friendly and flexible, clean, excellent food,very near railway station- single rooms at reasonable price. Emphasis on comfort and convenience rather than show. Ancient building but warm, has lifts, people to carry your bags up, none of the asceticism you might fear in a convent. Beautiful ancient chapel open for viewing. Fully recommended.
