Just returned from the Sandpiper. Peter and Manetta (the owners) very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was devine! The usual cereals, fruit juices on offer, followed by a full English breakfast freshly cooked. Delicious! We stayed in room 1 on the first floor. We had a superking bed (actually 2 singles pushed together) which provided us with loads... more

You need to be fit for Whitby, very steep hills and lots of steps. Sandpiper owner very helpful and knowledgable about the local area and facilities. Guest House ideally situated for access to everything. Good breakfast, not fatty and they will do what you want. Beds big and comfortable, bathroom products very good quality. Wifi available. Just 2 niggles and... more

It was our first trip to the North East. We found Peter to be a warm and genial host. Sadly, we didn't get to meet Minetta. The room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was really good and set us up for the day. Sandpiper is a good base to explore the surrounding area and if we were in the area... more

Fantastic rooms with everything you need to make your stay perfect (plentiful tea, coffee etc). We stayed for 3 nights and we're made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. I love this area and staying at The Sandpiper was the icing on the cake! What a perfect location. more

We stayed at the Sandpiper for 4 days, and we have rarely encountered an owner like Peter (his wife Manetta does the back-of-house, nuts-and-bolts stuff, so we rarely saw her). He was extraordinarily helpful, not only about local sights, restaurants, and the like, but also the history and life of Whitby today, which he seems to know everything about. His... more

We spent 4 nights at the Sandpiper at the start of June. I can only echo the praise of other reviews. The location was ideal, great for walks into town or the beach, near enough to walk off dinner, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town. Peter was as helpful as others have suggested, he made... more

Sandpiper is run by a lovely hardworking couple who provide little extras to make your stay special. Loved the caffetieres at breakfast, and they do the perfect fried egg. Single room larger than normal, with a 4ft bed which was very comfy. I would have stayed another night if the room had been free - usually I want to come... more

We stayed at the Sandpiper for 2 nights. The guest house is very clean and has been recently refurbished to a lovely standard. Our room had a four poster bed, good TV, lots of storage space and tea and coffee facilities, a comfortable leather sofa plus an en suite bathroom. Infinitely nicer than your average seaside B&B. We didn't see... more
