I'm a "North Yorks ex-pat" living in Lancashire and arranged a couple of nights in Whitby on the spur of the moment. I looked at possibilities online and Assam House was the first I called. After chatting to Dave for a few minutes I decided to book, and I'm glad I did. It's a really nice place, no rules and... More

Lovely place that is absolutely spotless. Breakfast good and only a short walk in to Whitby centre. We were made to feel extremely welcome. Slight grumble that the saniflow toilet was noisy and could be heard from other rooms, didn't bother me but may some. All in all Fantastic!! More

Well ...no one can complain about this place and if they do they are surely born to complain! We have just had yet another fab visit to Assam house and were welcomed as friends by Dave and Raj. We would never stay anywhere else in Whitby, as they couldnt compare with the friendliness, home from home and breakfasts im sure!... More

Everything you need from a guest house. David is the friendly bloke who runs/owns the place, very knowledgeable about the area and is keen to make sure your stay is as good as can be. Breakfast is flexible (or was for me) Rooms were clean, and the bathroom of room 3 was very spacious. There are movies and books downstairs... More

I booked for Whitby Folk Week again, staying Friday to Friday as I did last year and will do next year. Dave is friendly and accomodating. Doesn't mind guests coming in at a late hour. He's great at flexing breakfast times and cooks lovely scrambled egg, if the full breakfast fills you up too much. Cafetiere of coffee is a... More

Assam House was really easy to find and there is plenty of parking outside on the road. We were greeted very warmly by the owner David and shown to our rooms, we were in room 2 which was rather small for a double room. there was one bedside table beside the bed and the other had been put in the... I booked this break after reading the reviews. They were right! Dave the owner greated us like old friends. Our room was comfortable and very clean. The hospitality tray came complete with a corkscrew and we were assured that if we wanted to bring in a take away, just to ask for a plate and cutlery. There was a large... More
