I stayed here with my boyfriend and despite ringing ahead countless times to inform the owner that we would be arriving earlier than expected there was no answer on the phone and the door was opened by a child who pointed us in the direction of our room and then walked off. We were later given huge amounts of attitude... More

Lovely. A really relaxing stay in a beautiful spot. The owners strike the perfect balance; they are welcoming and friendly without being overbearing or too eager. The room (we stayed in Rydal) was spacious, full of light, and very tastefully furnished. The extra touches are lovely too - scones and cream for afternoon tea. Lovely, local toiletries in the bathroom.... More

We loved our stay at Cote How: We were welcomed with tea and scones in the beautiful lounge with a roaring fire. As the weather was all ice and snow this was particularly welcome! Our room (Loughrigg) was spacious and beautiful, as was the adjacent bathroom. The service was perfect and the breakfast delicious with a very good choice. We... More

We stayed for 2 nights in the Rydal suite to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The owner Caroline was extremely welcoming and informative about the local area, walks, restaurants etc. She showed us our room which was spacious and romantic with candles and warm, rich furnishings in keeping with the history of this historic house. The bathroom is luxurious, spacious... More

We first found this lovely place when walking from Grasmere to Ambleside and just had to stop for afternoon tea so, wanting to come back to the area again, I found the website and booked in for a weekend. We had such a wonderful stay - the room was huge, luxurious and we wanted for nothing (except more water pressure... More

Most highly recommended accommodations especially for Americans seeking the Romantic locations about which they have heard so much, read about in William and Dorothy Wordsworth or saw painted by Turner and many other artists. The beauty of the landscape especially in October is wild and inviting whether you are a stroller, walker (as 60+ year olds we operated somewhere between... More

Stayed in the Rydal room and was overwhelmed by the size and quality. We loved the location with access to walking, lake, peace and quiet, away from the busier towns in the Lakes District but still within walking distance of Ambleside. Great hosts - nobody seems to have mentioned the best host in Lurcher! More

This guest house was the nicest we have ever stayed in. The room was luxurious, and large with lovely decor and views. David and Caroline welcomed us with a cuppa, and showed us round before leaving us to enjoy our weekend. The organic food was mouthwateringly scrumptious, and lovely scones and lunches. It felt like home from home but more... More

We have just returned from Cote How Guest House where we spent four extremely enjoyable days. The whole experience of staying there has been fantastic; from the informative website before we got to Cote How, to the welcome we received on our arrival (which was the best we've ever had anywhere) to the help and information David and Caroline gave...
