Lovely hotel nestling below Catbells about 2 miles outside Keswick, about 1/2 mile from the round Derwent Water hike. Very comfortable, impeccable food and service. Woodpeckers, pheasants and a multitude of small birds fly and feed around the hotel. Every effort was made to ensure we had a great stay. more

This is as good as it gets. Perfectly located at the foot of Cat Bells, which despite its modest 1481 feet, has an exhillerating ridge walk with one of the finest views- across Derwent Water, back to a distant Bassenthwaite and forward to Borrowdale- in the Lake District- and with the option of a return by the Derwent Water lakeside.... more

Nothing in life is perfect but Swinside Lodge Hotel is as near as you are likely to get in this world. Excellent accommodation and food. We were a bit concerned when we learned that there were new owners at Swinside Lodge but that concern evaporated on arrival. What a welcome. Very pleasant couple (it's been about a year since they came to Swinside), helpful with walks etc. It's only a short walk to Derwent Water.
