This is a very comfy and relaxing hotel, with three lounges and open fires. The bed is the best I have slept in and the staff were very attentive . My only complaint is the drinks are very pricey(£4.70 for a gin and tonic ) other that that I would recommend it as a relaxing break. more

From recent reviews by people who think the negative reviews are untrue, the hotel has apparently cleaned up its act after seeing those entries. Glad they improved, and that others had a lovely experience. It is a beautiful B&B with historic meaning; it welcomes pets--in fact village walkers & their dogs stop by the bar for a drink. Charming. Our... more

I think I am going to give up reading TripAdvisor reviews, I had stayed at Macdonald Hotels before so didnt think twice about booking the Swan, then I read the reviews and wonder what I had let myself in for. The reality is it is a lovely hotel, food was excellent, staff excellent, great position. It was nice to go... more

An ideal base for exploring the South Lakes where you can relax, abandon the car if you wish and enjoy local walks. This was our second stay and the services experienced were consistently to a high standard, with very attentive reception and restaurant staff. There is an ongoing programme of room refurbishment, but all the common areas are now attractively furnished ,managing to combine the... more

The food in the restaurant is quite pricey. Unfortunately the £20 rib eye I ordered as medium was not just well done but also very charred. I could taste burnt meat with every Jarring bite, but it wasn't until I turned it over that I found the chef had attempted to hide has mistake by delivering it 'sunny side up'.... more

I am so glad I didn't what a great place to stay, the Swan hasn't lost any of its old worldly charm,Food, staff and accomadation all excellent, I had one small problem in that the Hotel was very warm but it CERTAINLY wouldn't... more

We have booked the Swan using the Tesco clubcard points and expected the worst. I was really impressed by the location of the hotel, even if situated on one of the main road it was very quite at night and near to many walks therefore we did not have to use the car much. I was a bit concerned when... more

I recently stayed in the Swan Hotel in Grasmere by Macdonald hotels, after seeing the internet pictures i thought it would be the ideal place to treat my father for his birthday to a few days away, having seen the pictures on the internet that they had shown, i thought it was going to be very modern with all the... more

I used to work in Grasmere in a hotel there and have been back many times, although apart from going to the Swan for a drink I had never actually eaten or stayed there, (primarily as it's a little out of the centre. We booked into the Swan as it was the only place that could do a Saturaday night... more
