Only stayed one night on business but was very pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the town is and by how nice the hotel was. Set beside the river, the food was great - not cheap but worth every penny!, room was large and comfortable with a view over the river, cannot find one fault at all with it - reception... More

This is my 1st review, after feeling compelled to write it after a fantastic long weekend break at this place. This is lovely hotel benefiting from a recent full refurbishment after the Cumbrian floods in 2009, the decor and furnishings in the reception areas, bars and restaurants are 1st class, the rooms are spacious, and again very well appointed (modern... We have stayed at the Trout twice before, and the third visit this January was no-where near as good as last January- what a difference a year makes! The restaurant used to be the crown jewel of the Trout- but has now become rather average- with terrible service from some staff. One evening, we had to wait in the bar... More

We stayed at The Trout when we attended a function a Cockermouth. This place has been refurbished since it was flooded 2 years ago. The hotel is clean and very comfortable and it's location allows a 'good base' upon which to explore the Lake District. Well worth staying here More

We stayed at The Trout during our time in the Lake District and found it to be quiet and comfortable. The service was fine- not particularly warm, but fairly welcoming. The restaurant looked nice, although a little formal for our taste (we didn't try it) and most of the other guests seemed to have "a few years" on us. Breakfast,... More

We stayed at the trout for a two night break between Xmas and the new year, and found the staff so friendly and welcoming and the hotel so comfortable that we had a very relaxing and enjoyable time, in spite of the weather! The hotel is what we would describe as 'quintessentially English'. The service was excellent, standards are high,... More

Visiting the beautiful region on business, we were fortunate enough to stay at the Trout. A warm welcome, great local beers on tap in the bar and a fanstastic cooked breakfast to set up for the following day. Well appointed, modern large rooms ensured a restuful overnight stay. Would like to try the restaurant next time. More

Booked into Trout for one night to visit family. Executive double was modern tasteful with an ultra clean and modern bathroom with the most powerful shower I have ever used. The hotel was very busy at lunchtime but ordered and were quickly served with sandwiches and salad made with top quality ingredients. The breakfast was terrific again using well cooked... More
