Just stayed at this little pub as a quick getaway with my boyfriend. Great little friendly place - staff were really helpful without being over the top, food was fab. Rooms had character (not just a box with a bed!) Proper pub! Gets really busy at times so best to book a table at night. more

Went to the Britannia with friends for a weekends walking. Loved it the moment we walked in. Have eaten there previously but never stayed. The rooms are small but then so is the inn! We enjoyed our stay at the Britannnia, but it was spoiled slightly by a lack of attention to cleanliness and a bit of an air of neglect. We drove down from Aberdeen to meet up with close relatives who had come over from New Zealand and had stayed at the Inn several times before. A fantastic location. Idyllic spot a few miles out from Ambleside, perfect for walking and getting away from it all. Our room was small but adequate, well furnished and on the face of it, clean and presentable. On closer inspection the carpet at the foot of the bed was matted with dog hair.
