My partner and i have just returned from a four day break at The Dower House and once again were delighted with every single aspect. We love The Lake Distrct as a whole and spend as much time as possible up there(happily we only live just over an hour away) we aim to stay over once a month or so.We... More

I have just returned from a very quick trip to the Lakes, where I took part in the Fred Whitton Cycle Challenge; however a very early start for this ride (6:45AM) & travelling up from South West England meant I needed somewhere to stay, preferably close to the start in Coniston. A few Internet searches showed that it is exceedingly... More

Have stayed in the self catering cottage bit of The Dower House twice and it is really excellent. Cozy, a home from home and a fabulous view. Ate at the B&B one evening and the food was lovely. Really lovely. Have returned and will do so again.

This is a National Trust Property, leased by the owners, and converted into a B & B. We are fanatically devoted members of the National Trust, but this was a first stay as guests in a NT property. We were most impressed. Margaret is a most gracious hostess, and a wonderful cook. We ate at the house most nights, and... More

We stayed over the weekend of 31st March and were delighted with every aspect of our stay. The accomodation is spotless, the owner delightful and the breakfasts spot on. The setting is beautiful and the lake shore a few minutes walk down a pathway. Hard to beat.......we will be booking again. Thankyou.

We've stayed at the Dower House every year for 18 years. The children have grown up there and loved it as much as teenagers as they did as toddlers. The house, grounds and gardens have an atmosphere of their own, a world of their own, even a climate of their own. The lake shore is a couple of minutes' walk... More

We booked a night here some time in advance to celebrate a wedding anniversary after happening to see the Dower House while visiting Wray Castle (next door!). Some time later we read what is currently (July 2010) Tripadvisor's other review "Dower or Dour" and were a bit disturbed by it. What's more, because the internet is now so parasitic with... More

I stayed here with my partner in August, following a Family wedding we thought we would visit the Lake district for the first time. The pictures on the web site looked good and when I phoned about a double room I was recommended a twin room as there were views of two sides through the "Picture Windows" and the owner... More
