Myself and a group of 8 friends stayed at the Cathedral Gate Hotel on 19th May. We ended up booking something quite last minute as as we all wanted to stay in the same place, the Cathedral Gate was the best bet as it had a lot of rooms. I was in a twin room which cost £80 including a... More

The location is the most important thing about this little place as it's beside the Cathedral entrance so you're right in the centre of the town. The building dates back to the 1600s which if you like history is quite fascinating. It's definitely in need of some updating but for a night or two it's fine. Unfortunately the shower in... More

What could be better? I will say, first of all, that we stayed at the hotel several years ago. We booked through book a bed ahead and had not researched the hotel, but what an experience! We, my husband and two teen-aged sons, were blessed to book the trip when the Canterbury Mystery Plays were being enacted. The hotel staff... More

Fortunately my stay was brief, just the one night as my youngest son enjoyed his stag do in this wonderful , charismatic bit of historic England. Cathedral Gate sounded fine on the web site but it left a lot to be desired. Certainly it was quirky, unusual and in a wonderful spot for the tourist, right in the centre of... More

Belzebub himself would struggle to get a good nights sleep here. I stay in a lot of hotels for work and this must be about top of the terribles. With a creaky bed (Daybreak) tired aged decor and a smelly old room, communal showers and toilet and wiring that could have been put in by my nan (d'cd) I urge... More

This may not be the most luxurious of hotels but for the price you pay it is just fine. The hotel literally is part of the cathedral gate and old and rickety whih makes it quirkily cool. The floor in my room was sloping its that old but that for me just adds to the atmosphere. I could see the... More

I chose this hotel as it was loctaed slap bang in the middle of Canterbury and it was cheap. I was travelling alone to visit my son who is at uni in Canterbury so location was the major factor and this was the cheapest hotel on the net, I was therefore not expecting it to be very luxurious for a... Booking in for two nights was my first mistake, five minutes to look around should have been enough, but with British stoicism, we tolerated everything as we had already paid. It is an historic building, (if you discount the coffee shop that takes up the ground floor) which also includes stairs that are almost impossible to ascend, a dining room... More

Spent two days in this charming little hotel. Located right beside the main entrance gate to the cathedral in Burgate, central Canterbury. It was exactly what we expected. A 14th century building full of character and charm. Yes it is old, yes the rooms are on the small size, (so some rooms have to share amenities), yes the floors do... More

My pal and I stayed here for her birthday last year and what a dreadful experience. Firstly, the entrance was covered in the dust, and the reception area was filthy. Our room was shabby and unkempt and the beds were really uncomfortable, so much so that as my friend's mattress sloped at an angle, she had to cling on to... More
