Tripadvisor is rarely wrong and yes this is a near faultless gem. I got lost getting there as my sat nav didn't accept that the street existed. Luckily the receptionist ( a lady, sorry forgot your name) displayed the patience of Job and like a control tower 'talked me in'. Welcome drink most gratefully accepted . I decided to stay at the Clarence Hotel after ready the reviews on Tripadvisor.com. I was not disappointed in the least. The staff was highly accomodating. I highly recommend it. After leaving Portsmouth, I headed to London where I checked into a Marriott, i immediately recognized the difference - The Marriott felt cold and impersonal. more

I chose this hotel because of the positive trip advisor recommendations and they were not wrong. The staff were friendly and attentive from the second I was in the door, the room was comfy, well decorated and spotless, and the food was excellent (in both quality and quantity).
