The Lion is the result of a sympathetic restoration by someone who not only has a good idea of what a modern Inn, echoing the history of the building and its location should be but has also carried that commitment through to the positive and friendly attitude of all staff. We stayed two nights in a comfortable room - which... More

We spent a fabulous 2 nights at The Lion Inn, taking full advantage of the 'Spring Scape' deal of B&B and dinner with a bottle of wine included... Everything was superb; extremely comfortable bedroom (room 2) and ensuite shower room with plenty of bottles of gorgeous creams, lotions, shampoo & conditioner (all available to purchase)& large fluffy bathrobes were supplied... The great reveiws put us onto this lovely Inn and it lived up to its reputation. The staff are extremely efficient and also busy and means you may not always attentive service, but all were friendly and very welcoming! The bathroom was spotlessly clean with lovely products provided, room also clean and very comfortable, there isn't a TV but why... More

The Lion has had good media coverage, but we were distinctly disappointed. We arrived on foot, rather cold and wet, and we were simply shown to our room (outside, up some stairs in the rain), and left to get on with it. I can only describe our room (room 6) as rather poky. There was no TV/radio, tea-making facilities, wardrobe... More

We stayed here as part of our walking trip across the Cotswolds. Warm welcome by the staff to all 4 of us, despite being wet and muddy, coming in from a long day. Both of our rooms were beautiful and a good size. We had dinner here as well which was excellent, as was their breakfast the next morning.

A very hospitable Inn with comfortable rooms and excellent food. The staff were outstandingly helpful and polite. I have two suggestions for improvement: first, with the serving staff doubling up as check-in/check-out staff, there can be lengthy delays to process guests when the bar and restaurant are popular. Second, while tea and coffee are delivered to rooms on request free... More

We have today returned from a short two night break in the Cotswolds staying at The Lion Inn at Winchcombe. Everything about our stay was first class, the level of service, quality of accommodation, good food and very friendly and efficient staff. We can't wait for our next visit when we will take our brother and sister-in-law, who we know... More

Been before previously and didn't get the opportunity to eat at The Lion, so a return journey was always on the cards. Food in the restaurant is lovely, as was our room, and the staff who are mega friendly. Is another return possible? Definately

This was a pleasant enough place. It would be more a pub with rooms, rather than a hotel but no worse for that. Refurbishment has been done in a sympathetic and tasteful way. On a Friday evening the pub was busy with a mixture of locals and overnight stayers. Service was efficient and quick. Possibly efficiency came slightly at the... More

Having stayed in the Cotswolds last year we discovered The Lion on our travels and called in for a drink on a couple of occasions sitting both inside and out. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lion Inn started life as a coaching inn in the 15th Century. Over the years it has gone through many changes and played an important role in the village and surrounding areas; providing food, drink and accommodation for both people and horses, in a variety of guises. Having fallen in love with the building, Annie Fox-Hamilton took over ownership of the Lion in October 2011 and spent six months on a major renovation of the building and grounds. We were determined not to lose any of the inn’s original quirky charm; we unearthed quite a lot more than we had anticipated such as Minnie Mouse – the vintage wall painting in Room 1 we couldn’t bear to lose. The Lion has a bar, snug, restaurant, garden (ideal for alfresco dining), 6 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a mini suite. All have extremely comfortable beds, their own individual character and ambiance. ... more   less
