Stopped here for a brief night when visiting near by Camber, to be honest I didnt spend enough time in the hotel to appreciate its heritage I am sure that it would make a lovely base for people visiting Rye, it is steeped in history and the staff were lovely and VERY helpful. Breakfast was divine!!!! Negatives - no showers... More

Stayed here last year but have eaten here and enjoyed the bar/open fire on many occasions,it really comes into its own on a snowy winters day when the xmas dex are up. The bedrooms are fantastic and take you back in time.Mind your head after a few vinos!

Overall an enjoyable experience. My only criticism is I stayed on a quiet evening when I believe (by speaking to the owner/manager) there was only 9 to 10 rooms occupied - and with 30 rooms to chose from I was not too impressed that they decided to put me right next to an occupied room with very close proximity. I was whisked away for a surprise stay here by my husband for one night. It was on the Sunday of the May bank holiday weekend. We'd been here before but only for a drink at the bar. We were in room 16 - the Elizabethan Chamber - which was beautifully decorated with a stain glass window and a four... More

Staying in an inn that has housed many many famous and infamous characters over its many years as a hotel, was an absolute treat for me. I'm fascinated by history and the Mermaid is truly a national treasure. Winding, narrow, ladder-steep staircases lead to corridors where you think you are drunk because the floors are so uneven, which lead you... More

From the moment of first inquiry, to leaving the day after the wedding everything went as smooth as I could have wanted. Staff were amazingly friendly yet out of the way, the function room was the perfect size and presented beautifully. We were able to add a few personal touches to the decor but to be honest they were not... More

Through reading trip advisor reviews we stumped up a little more ££ for one of the historic rooms and spent a lovely night in Dr. Syn's Bedchamber, complete with secret staircase. We were lucky to be there on a quiet night and so we slept soundly. There is no shower in the bathroom, but that was fine with us. The... More

Truly nothing short of amazing, the building, the history, the food, the staff. My only real advice would be to check when booking whether they had a function on in their famous 'Tudor Rooms' before booking and as such choose your room accordingly. I wouldn't want to be in the room directly above it, as I particuarly chose to go... More

We were here in March when it snowed. The hotel staff were really great and there is an enormous wood burning fire in the bar that was perfect, given the weather. The room was very comfortable and spacious. The food excellent, but the evening menu doesn't change daily, so we ate in the bar on a couple of nights. There... More
