We chose this hotel from the many others in the Torbay area due to a special offer price online. The discount price was for an inland double room and the rate was lower than most B&Bs in the area. The reviews were generally good that we had read on Trip Advisor. Our one night stay was great !! We checked... More

I chose this hotel because of its history (Agatha Christie spent a honeymoon here) and also for its swimming pools (indoor and outdoors). It is a classic, old-style hotel that probably needs some renovations. The room (double) was not too spacious but the bathroom had a nice bathtub and everything was kept very clean. There were tea/coffee/chocolate making facilities and... More

We stayed in a very spacious suite that should be refurbished soon but offers wonderful seaviews and a charming old fashioned atmosphere. Nice and friendly staff, outside swimming in a heated pool with a very well spoken lifeguard was a nice experience on a cold day. As for the Dinner: excellent, unexpected, light, tasty and refined meal. Thank you, Chef.... More

Not a good start - the car park was full ! We pulled in and got some directions from the reception staff . There are some designated spaces (marked as GH) in the railway station over the road, they were full too, so we ended up in the rugby club also over the road. A bit of a struggle to... More

We stayed 2 nights in May. Its a nice traditional, large hotel. A little faded like many of this type but clean, and in good condition. The staff were excellent, the food well above average - with options of the main restaurant or in the bar area- both with splendid sea views. The indoor swimming pool is good - we... More

We have stayed here 5 or 6 times over the last 10 years. We like to try and do an annual visit, but this year couldnt get the dates we wanted in May. Never fails to please. A lovely old building full of character. On a rare sunny day (!) looking out from the hotel you could be abroad looking... More

I stayed here for one night. Friendly person at reception. The decor is rather dated and dull. The lifts are small and creak. The corridors are a real rabbit warren, because the hotel has been added to several times. My room, when I found it, was failry large and pleasant although the predominant colour was brown. Good bathroom, and good... More

Stopped here Friday and Saturady night (May 3rd and 4th). Not cheap but very nice stay. Weather excellent so may be reason to overlook worn carpets and some shoddy paint work but overall staff excellent throughout, pleasant and friendly. Outdoor pool is a must (needs direction signs in changing room). Overall very positive. 4 star justified unlike my earlier report... More

I visited The Grand on Saturday 4/5/2013 for a meal with my two sisters before going to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert show .The food was good ,hot and presented well, staff were attentive .The view of Torbay was fantastic as the sun was shining and the view of the bay looked like the Med.
