2 adults on a surprise break, which was organised by friends. We stayed in the "Captains Room", which was excellent. The hotel was very well decorated, and extremely clean all the way through. Breakfast was very good. Clifford always asked whether we would like more toast, and gave us as much tea or coffee as we wanted. We were never... More

We can only echo the worst of the reviews here. Additionally: When asked if the breaksfast could be changed, we were told "no it had already been cooked", but scrambled egg was provided because another guest had cahnged from the previous day. So when had it been cooked? This scrambled egg was watery and tasteless. And the sausages were pale... More

2 adults on a very last minute Easter break away booked in for 2 nights. While I was parking the car my wife was being asked whether we wanted a full English for breakfast and what sitting we wanted, (0810 or 0850hrs prompt! do not be late).... I particularly asked for an en-suite room when booking. We were shown to... More

We were 5 adults and 2 children (aged 13 and 10) walking the coastpath. We arrived to have our entry barred by the owner and an order to remove our boots (fair enough). Boots removed we still weren't allowed in until we had agreed to the barked question "full English breakfast?" Then we were shown to our rooms. We had... More

We chose this guest house as a base for walking the SWCP from Minehead to Ilfracombe over 4 days. We were a little concerned by some of the earlier reviews but were very pleasantly surprised. The location was superb - in the heart of a very picturesque and peaceful coastal village, gently flowing river just outside the window and within... More

A guest house deep in the Devon countryside with perfect hosts! The hosts made us so welcome in their lovely home. We arrived and were offered tea and cake. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we were fed wonderful food and the breakfast was just what the doctor ordered. Clifford had so much knowledge on what advice on... More

Diabolical B&B...I couldn't get the one I wanted so opted for The Captain's House in Lynmouth, knowing the reviews were mixed...and it was a laugh a minute! The second we arrived we had to say if we wanted a cooked breakfast the next day, were told we had to put the dog in the car at breakfast time, and when... More

We booked this B & B at short notice, for a 1 night stay & they were able to accomodate our elderly parents in a ground floor room. We were offered complimentary pot of tea on arrival & were made to feel very welcome. Whilst looking at the brochure selection, the owner offered plenty of additional information, which was very... We booked last minute and requested the ground floor room which "has french doors onto the garden" since we were taking our dog and thought it would be convenient to take him out this way instead of through the house. Unfortunately the french doors had a large dressing table across them and concrete plant pots outside - so no chance... More

The Captain's House has a beautiful location with numerous fascinating hikes starting directly from it. The rooms we've been in are individually and with love designed. The owners were welcoming in their house. The house is rich in history and the area around Lynmouth is rich in literary history. The owners were happy and proud to tell about it. We... More
