Should you find yourself in St. Mawes on an idle sunny afternoon, wander in to the Idle Rocks Hotel, park youself on the terrace overlooking the harbour and indulge in some wine and brunch while you watch the world sailing by: you can't beat it.

This hotel is about to undergo major refurbishment and it is in need of a bit of an update so will be interesting to see what they do. The verandah is unbeatable for watching sunset/boats/generally taking in the scene which was fantastic. Our bedroom was really comfortable with lovely view over estuary. We didn't have dinner as it was a... More

We stayed at the Idle Rocks for two nights 18th & 19th September 2012, this was our 3rd visit to the hotel. Our other visits were 2006 & 2009. After I had booked I went on trip advisor and was rather concerned by what I read, some of the reviews were really bad. We took advantage of their Autum offer... More

On arriving to the Idle Rocks, we had 3 rooms booked. The one room was a more expensive room with a sea view, and the other two rooms were the standard £130 a night room. We were told that we were not allowed to check in as one of the standard rooms was not ready. After waiting we were finally... More

We ate at the Idle Rocks on a recent holiday to St Mawes, having read a few write ups which rated it as a fabulous place to eat. There were very few diners on the evening we ate there. We were shown to a table which was right in front of the kitchen doors, which proved very annoying due to... More

I always enjoy a stay at the Idle Rocks, mainly because of its location and views from the restaurant. I agree the rooms are looking tired but they are clean and comfortable. I like a sea view, but this can be £50 more, so I would consider the inland facing room, quiet in the middle of the night but slightly... More

We hadn't intended to eat here but as the Victory Inn was so dreadful and The Watch House was full, we decided to try the Idle Rocks. We sat on the terrace at first. It really is tired and the tables were stained and grubby. Still, the view is magnificent so we watched the sun go down. Wine ordered. Lipstick... More
