Whenever we visit Bristol we have stayed in the Hotel du Vin for the past 10 years or so. but that place isn't what it used to be and so we jumped ship this time and stayed at 38 Clifton - and what a nice place it is - easy to find, fairly easy to park and plenty of good... More

We stayed at Number Thirty Eight for one night on 17th Demeber 2011 when we collected our son from Uni. We had a great time, welcoming and efficient staff, we were shown to our room and heating controls etc explained, room was lovely, very large comfortable bed, wood panelled room painted in Farrow and Ball, large bathroom with separate bath... Recommended by a friend of a friend as an alternative to the usual city hotels, this establishment is brilliant. OK, there is no on-site parking, so you have to park on a busy road outside. Through the front door and enter a very smart, tranquil setting. Following a very informal meeting with the house manager, it's off to your room.... More

We decided to try Number 38 after reading a review of this lovely place, and were certainly not disappointed! For various reasons, we have now stayed here twice in a fairly short time and have already booked to come again next year. The location, rooms and service are faultless - the staff could not be more friendly or helpful, the... More

I lived in Bristol for 10 years and now only return for business meetings & romantic breaks. This luxury B&B is excellent (I book room 3 with outstanding fittings, great bathroom and claw bath overlooking Clifton and the city and front windows overlooking the downs). Even thought its on the road triple glazed beautifully restored sash windows make it so... More

With the exception of being slightly too warm (thermostat failed to heed my exhortations), this is an excellent boutique "hotel" (or B&B, call it what you will). Very good views from No.5, comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom in need of just one more towel rail (with the sink) and a box of tissues ! Relaxed common rooms and a... More

Bristol is really not too well served for decent hotels, but this is just perfect. It's a B&B so don't expect room service or an evening meal. The room was spotless with amazing views of the city, comfy bed and amazing bathroom. Service was friendly and attentive, breakfast was yum! Coming back soon! More

Just stayed for 1 night for business as wanetd to avoid the big brand hotels which have v little rooms. Number 38 was gorgeous - room 3 had a lovely free standing bath with great view over the city, v comfy bed and the staff were excellent. Lovely vibe, very homely but with all the luxury touches. Would definetly recommend. More
