We stayed here for 2 nights in February 2012 - overall, it was a great experience: beautiful, characterful room (room 5) with 4 poster bed and antiques. Property in extremely good condition - well looked after and luxurious but in a way which is sympathetic to the location. Some really lovely touches - well stocked bar, good wines and excellent... My wife and I have enjoyed numerous meals at the Peacock - we find it a charming place to go for a treat. Jenny and the staff have always been most welcoming and we have always enjoyed the experience. Pre dinner drinks in the garden in summer or snug in the bar with a roaring fire during winter set the... More

We had a great two night stay here. Would have been nice to have cable on the tv but aside from that you couldn't fault the staff, the cleanliness or the food. Great little gurney break-up on our trip to the Lake District. More

We spent 2 nights over the New Year holiday 2011 / 2012 - Can only be described as faultless - Jenni Mckenzie is a very good hostess. Room, food, ambience all superb, I can't recommend this hotel too highly. The details (e.g Aveda toiletries) all add to make this a great hotel. More

A very friendly reception and help to our room with the bags. They took notice of my request for a convenient room due to arthritis. No lift but the gave us a good room. Very comfortable with any thing you could wish for 'though the bathrooms are very small. The bar is cosy and the staff friendly and helpful. The... More

We have stayed here as well as having had a number of lunches and evening meals. When staying we did so over a weekend with breakfast and evening meal included. Not inexpensive but worth the money. Rooms full of character. Pre dinner drinks in the cosy bar area followed by excellent meals. Service by management and staff as expected. The... More

Attractive building - it is on the main road but this did not bother us as we were out and about during the daytime. Our room was excellent - comfy large bed. We had a bar meal on the first night and then restaurant the second night. Both were very good rather than outstanding but this is probably because our... More

We had a warm welcome from front of house who were expecting us to join friends staying at the hotel. Pre-dinner cocktails were taken in a cosy corner of the bar. As nominated driver I couldn’t have anything alcoholic, and was pleased to have plenty of interesting choice. Helpful information is provided on the menu and there is plenty of... More

Had another excellent family get together at The Peacock, a group of 25+ family members ranging from 0 to 90. The food was superb and excellent value for money - the locally reared lamb for sunday lunch is a must have! The staff are warm, professional and engaging with a 'here to help' attitude. The hotel is authentic, not pretencious,... More

On arrival for our 3 night stay we were warmly welcomed, luggage taken and shown to our room. Good bathroom with shower and pleasant bedroom. The hotel is presided over by the omnipresent owner who made sure all guests had an excellent stay and staff kept on their toes. I had one of the best Dry Martinis ever, made by... More
