The owner here helped to make the most of our time in Tuscany and we really enjoyed it. Explanations, maps and directions were all provided with patience to us English speaking tourists! I was also able to plug my phone in to charge through the computer which was very helpful as I didn't have the right plug adapter. Everyone working... More

AlbergoPortole is set further up in the hills from Cortona and provides a peaceful alternative to the crowds below. The hotel itself feels very ‘alpine‘ due to both its décor and its beautiful location with fabulous views on all sides. We were there in October and although it was chilly and damp outside we were very warm and cosy in... More

I stayed at the hotel for three nights. The views are lovely. The hotel is dated but clean. When I arrived it was cold and the owner said the heat wouldn't be turned on until evening. I spent most of the first afternoon and evening in my room in bed trying to stay warm. The owner also seemed to be... More

We have just returned from three days in this hotel - whilst visiting Cortona. The rooms are comfortable and clean. We were given the choice of three rooms and picked the one with the best views over the valley below. The food was really good - we brought over everyone we knew from a family wedding for dinner) - try... More

Stayed for 3 nights here with Franco and his family. Lovely traditional inn, great views, peace and quiet but easy reach from the lovely town of Cortuna. Room was clean, simple, cool and peaceful and great contrast to some of the bustle and heat of the Tuscan towns. We went for the half board option ... even if your Italian... More

If ever you want to experience true "Italian" life and the people who make Italy the pleasure it is to both visit and live, I recommend you take your party to the Albergo Ristorante Portale. Located about 10 kilomters northeast of Cortona, in the beautiful Appenines mountains, the property provides the perfect tranquil setting for the true holiday experience. It's... More

The owner Franco could not have been more friendly and accomodating. His stories about the family and their long association with the hotel were fascinating. The room and bathroom were clean, with a wonderful view over the wooded hillside and plains below, and the supper delicious and excellent value. We were able to take full advantage of the recent arrival... More

Located about 8/9 kilometres from the Etruscan town on Cortona this family run hotel/restaurant/shop is an excellent find. Run by Franco and his family for many years - Nonna runs the shop and serves panini's to passing motorists and lots of cyclists who must need refreshment after climbing those hills! Serves good genuine authentic Tuscan cuisine and Franco has a... More

The Albergo Portole is a great find. It is situated in a rural position near the summit of the Apennines. It has been in the Lunghi family for two generations and has a reputation for hospitality and excellent Tuscan home cooking. The welcome you will receive from Franco and Mirella is second to none. The rooms are comfortable and the... More

We booked last minute and arrived the day after. We weren't disappointed. The drive up along the winding mountain roads had us humming songs from The Italian Job (especially This is the Self-Preservation Society - you had to be there!!!) Franco and his staff made us really welcome and the view from our room was stunning. We spent the next... More
