LagartoLodge was our first destination in CR and it was great! BirdWatching, hikes throgh the rain forest, friendly and helpful people and also a good kitchen made it unforgettable. snakes, frogs and flowers- many things to see, also discovering the rainforest was a great experience! More

Location: far north near the border to Nicaragua. Garmin GPS makes finding the lodge easy. Unpaved road for about 1,5-2 hours. In dry conditions, can be made with a 2WD (4WD more convenient, but only because of ground clearance, may be different in wet conditions). The area has some hurricane damage from a 2007 hurricane, and in result some forest... More

It was our first contact with the rain forest-and is was great. Although we stayed in Costa Rica for three weeks at all-we remembered all the time the Lagarto Lodge with its beautiful style. Situated calm on the top of a small hill, you can watch a lot of birds as tucans, montezumas, parrots, hummingbirds, woodpickers..... Don´t miss the jungle... More

We started our 4-weeks holiday with 3 young kids (6, 8 and 11 years) at Laguna de Lagarto. After 3 days we were wondering what could possibly beat our experience at this lodge. And nothing did! The accomodation was simple, but clean and practical. The hammock was great, with a view on the laguna and the rainforest. We saw many... More

This was by far one of our best stays in Costa Rica, I guess the best! We only stayed there for one night, but the owner Alfonso already made us feel at home at our arrival. Very friendly and hospitable. A lot of things are included in the price, suchs as jungle tours, cayman feeding etc. In the Garden you... More

My companion and I visited Laguna Del Lagarto Lodge (LDL), near Boca Tapada in northeastern Costa Rica, from April 1 - 10, 2011. This was my third visit to LDL, her first. The owner, Kurt Schmack, kindly arranged our transportation to LDL from the San Jose international airport (SJO), a 140 km, 4 hour drive through the Cordillera Central. As... More

We stayed at the Laguna del Lagarto Lodge for two nights and did a boat trip on the river as well as a guided rainforest tour. The rainforest around the lodge is great and can be explored on self-guided tours on many different trails. One guided tour was included in our stay and was definitely worthwhile. Although it was raining... More

The lodge is isolated in mixed hilly farmland and tropical rainforest. Ideal location for naturalists - birds, plants, insects and other animals abound. The lodge provides experienced guides - free on local trips. The lodge is very comfortable and provides the most excellent dining that we experienced in our three weeks in the country of Costa Rica! Dining room overlooks... More

THis eco-lodge is definitely recommendable if you want the rainforest experiece, i.e. if you want to spend a few days in the rain-forest and want to leave the regular tourist experience behind for a while. Be sure that there is no TV, no internet and no swimmoing pool in this lodge, all you get is the nature experience and a... More

Late March, 2010, two of us on a birding trip to Costa Rica (we've made many) stayed 3 nights at Laguna del Lagarto Lodge. I was attracted by the website and the effort to string together birding sites and lodges into what's called the Birding Trail in NE Costa Rica. Impressions - 1. Facilities, hospitality and food were excellent. Mid-range... More
