We stayed for 4 nights as part of a tailor-made nature tour, and would have liked to have stayed many more as Maquenque Lodge is a very special place, remote and quiet, and well worth the 25 mile unmade road trip to reach it. The grounds are spacious and beautifully laid out surrounding the lagoons, which are frequented by many... More

We stayed for 3 nights at this Eco Lodge in February as part of a three week trip. It's off the beaten tourist track but definitely worth the journey. Nature is all around you, 24 hours a day. The owners Jenny and Juan Carlos are wonderful, and Pablo the guide is a great source of local knowledge and humor. This... More

This Eco Lodge transports you into another world. It certainly makes you forget about your own world during your stay and envelops you in the sounds and sights of this gorgeous and remote part of Costa Rica. As others have noted, it takes either a long drive over an unpaved road or a river boat transfer to get there. But... More

This lodge, accessible only by 30kms of unsurfaced road and a short boat ride (organised by the lodge) across the San Carlos river is one of these places truly worth going to. It is tranquil and yet bustling with life. Howlers, macaws, toucans and many more are all to be seen and heard! The lodge is set close to the... More

A place quiet hazardous to find, near the nicaragayan border but it's worth a lot. New structure (2 years old) with many facilities. No connection WIFI or mobile. But the nature is amazing (50 bird species around the hotel, possibilities to see crocodiles on the rio San Carlos. Nice and very experimented guide (Pablo) to discover the forest. More

We have been invited to visit Maquenque many times, thank God we decided to go!!!! It was the perfect place to escape from the normal living.... first at all to get to the lodge is necessary to accross San Carlos River, so during our stay we were far away from everithing, but if you still want to stay in comunication,... I had no previous expectations about Maquenque but our tour guide (Henry from Campos Tours) recommended that we include this spot since we are avid birders/photograhers. He couldn't have been more right!! Maquenque Eco-Lodge is inside Maquenque National Park. I believe that remote feel makes it better for wildlife viewing/photography. There's no "city noise" to scare away the wildlife. What... More

I wrote in my diary: "Today we arrived in Paradise!" After 35km bad road, we came to the Lodge. The buildings where on the other side of the river and Pablo came by boat to welcome us and help us to bring our luggage in the boat. In the reception we met Pablo’s wife Vicky. We immediately felt at home... More

Just returned from a visit to Maquenque Lodge. Please, this is a place that every nature lover/bird watcher MUST see. I am without words to describe the beauty of the surroundings. I am already making my travel plans to return. This family run ecolodge should can be ranked among all others. The grounds are spotless, the birds flourish among all... More
