The scenery is stunning, the bush walks are amazing and Dave and Helen are fantastic hosts who make sure your welcomed and looked after. One hours drive and a 20 minute launch ride from Auckland and it feels like you are a million miles away! The hosts were great, the food excellent, there is plenty to do if you want or nothing to do if you feel so inclined. Two nights there and we were totally relaxed. We will return. More

Kawau Island was purchased by Sir George Grey in 1862 while he was serving his second term as Governor. We visited the island on a day trip while we were staying at Sandspit Holiday Park. Dave and helen are the friendliest hosts I have ever experienced. They get the balance of homeliness and excellent service the lodge and it makes for a lovely experience. Fantastic food with great facilities at the lodge. Definitely worth a couple of days there to wind down. More
