If you judge a book by its cover you won’t be as disappointed with the Wild Boar Inn Grill and Smokehouse as we were. Behind the sprawling olde worlde building we expected contemporary chic judging from their publicity photos but reality is a tired, old fashioned dwelling with a rabbit warren of long draughty corridors and a dark and dingy... Enjoyed a pleasant one night stay in January. We knew people that had stayed here on a number of occassions and always spoke highly about the food and general ambience of the place. We booked the room very close to departure and don't think we enjoyed one of the special deals that many reviewers refer to. All the same, the... More

This is the first of three reviews of the three Lakeland hotels, that we stayed in during a week in January. We stayed for 2 nights at each over the period of mine and my wife's Birthdays. The Hotels were aware that we were celebrating. I like to think that my reviews are honest and any criticism is (in my... More

Me and my girlfriend stayed at The Wild Boar for two nights in February '12 for a mid-week break away from work. Can't speak highly enough of the staff, accommodation, location, oh, and the food. Smoked salmon and sweet and sour onions with baked Alaska flambeed at the table won't be forgotten in a hurry. We upgraded to one of... More

Just back from a weekend with friends at The Wild Boar. Most of us booked Classic Rooms having failed to notice they were not refurbished and if you like faded 70’s decor these are an excellent choice, if somewhat ambitiously priced. On the plus side they are quiet being at the back of the hotel and beds were comfortable with... More

2 nights on kgbdeal and wine if eating in. Room good kingsize bed but bathroom very compact . Value with deal and deals readily available. Warm welcome log fires and staff friendly. Food very interesting but very meaty with smoke house fish treats. Snow came so we stayed in and ate huge meals and read papers. Wi-fi difficult so good... More

We booked a KGB weekend stay and as we were taking a child and staying a Saturday, were advised that we would have to upgrade our room to a suite to accommodate the extra bed, and an extra payment of 70 to cover this and a saturday night stay, which took the shine out of the deal but was ok.... We had a great deal through KGB deals to stay here and the price for 2 nights was so cheap we decided to upgrade for £50 per night to one of the best rooms. It was worth every penny . All named after pigs/boars, we stayed in 'The Large White' room which in the bathroom had a clawed foot pewter... More
