We stayed at this hotel as part of an organised trek of Aconcagua with a group made up of people from Australia, England, Scotland and the USA. Not our choice - that was in the hands of the trek organisers - but there is no choice in Los Penitentes from what I can tell. Now I've ended up rating this... More

We stayed 2 nights in Ayelen Hotel de Montana (very stylish!) - it was between the season (or something like that), almost empty and restaurant was closed, but Steve asked cook to come and make dinner for us late evening. Food was excellent, of course argentinian steak! He told us where to go and what to see in Mendoza, pity... More

This is a hotel with an excellent design. The common areas are beautiful. The rooms are simple and aging, but the new owner is renovating the property and provides some of the most attentive service that I have encountered anywhere, regardless of price. He is from London, so this is a great place for the English speaking visitors to the... More

We could think of nothing else but the hot showers and soft bed when we were on the plains of Aconcagua. The food was excellent and very reasonable wine and champagne.Steve our host was very friendly and helped us during our stay.

We stayed there in summer on the way to Aconcagua as a group of about 20. Service was great! Food was great! Prices were right. You can tell it is a nice place that got run down, but is on the way back up. Current owner Steve, a great English bloke, has had it for a year now and is... More

Far away from civilization and nestled in the foothills of Andes, Ayelen is home away from home. This is no luxury resort and you should not expect any in the town. But if you are looking for basic comfort, great food, cozy rooms and a sun glazed lounge with amazing views, this is the place to be. The host and... More

I frequented Ayelen as part of my Aconcagua climb during Jan/Feb 2013 with a fellow climber. The service that Steve and his team provided was second to none, and extremely supportive during a slight 'admin problem' that occurred prior to our ascent, and subsequent 'lock-in!' due to 25 landslides along Ruta 7 on return from Aconcagua. Their friendly, charming demeanour... More

I came back to the Ayelen Hotel after my climb of Aconcagua. I needed assistance to make it in time to Santiago to catch my flight. The hotel team was extraordinarily supportive and I am very thankful!!! Well, after almost 3 weeks of Aconcagua, the Ayelen Hotel is a real sweet spot with all you need! Plus the food and... More

We are a family of 4 with two boys aged 9 and 7 on a gap year together and have just spent 4 days at Hotel Ayelen, a rejuvenated hotel that dominates the small village of Penitentes, just a few kilometres from the foot of Aconcagua. The new owner, Steve, now in his second season in charge, is really turning... More

We stayed here the night before and night after our Aconcagua trip. I don't think we appreciated it before but as a place to come back to it was superb. First experience of civilisation after 2 weeks camping, there was plenty of hot water for all of us to have the worlds longest showers, clean rooms, excellent service. The food... More
