The cabins here are fabulous - lovely bathroom and bedroom right in the jungle. The hosts are really helpful and welcoming too. The only thing about this place is it doesn't really feel like Mexico - the menu in the restaurant is strangely eclectic. Plus the main road is quite noisy.

We were planning to spend two nights here, however after the first night we left. The place is right next to the highway so you get to hear trucks driving by all night. The menu is huge but all English and the quality is similar to lower-end pub grub. Pity because owners were really nice.

We had a very nice visit to Rio Bec. We arrived on a horribly hot afternoon and Rick was immediately accommodating. Rio Bec Dreams is great for many reasons. Not only is it good value for money, it's well placed to visit the Calakmul site (a must do), comfortable, easily accessed and Dianne and Rick are good hosts. This is one of few places to stay in the vicinity, and as the reviews were mostly good we decided to pay the bit extra and stay for a few days over christmas. We stayed in Sak Tzi, a 2-bedroom cabin fairly close to the reception area. (We weren't bothered by any road noise.) On our book-it-as-we-go-along honeymoon, we almost stayed at the pricey Puerta Calakmul but were put off by trip advisor reviews and opted for Rio Bec instead...so very glad that we did! This is a very special place, run by expats with a genuine fanatic interest in archeology who seem intent on improving the welfare of their staff and local community... More
