Yes, indeed, the cabins are fabulous. But for the price (over US$100 per night for our group), I would have expected at least a quickie breakfast - even if just toast and jam. The owner I dealt with seemed harried - while pleasant and helpful, I would not necessarily describe her as warm and welcoming. And as one of the... More

We spent a a total of 3 nights at Rio Bec dreams a week ago and were instantly captivated by the beauty of the place in the middle of the jungle in Calakmul. The "jungalow" we stayed in (Orchidia) was clean, roomy, rustic and well ventilated. Orchidia has a half bath that was just lovely. The unattached showers were also... More

The cabins here are fabulous - lovely bathroom and bedroom right in the jungle. The hosts are really helpful and welcoming too. The only thing about this place is it doesn't really feel like Mexico - the menu in the restaurant is strangely eclectic. Plus the main road is quite noisy.

We were planning to spend two nights here, however after the first night we left. The place is right next to the highway so you get to hear trucks driving by all night. The menu is huge but all English and the quality is similar to lower-end pub grub. Pity because owners were really nice.

We had a very nice visit to Rio Bec. We arrived on a horribly hot afternoon and Rick was immediately accommodating. Sometimes one wonders in these smaller places whethere you are obligated to talk to other people, but we were so hot we just couldn't, and he just led us to our room and told us dinner would be ready... Rio Bec Dreams is great for many reasons. Not only is it good value for money, it's well placed to visit the Calakmul site (a must do), comfortable, easily accessed and Dianne and Rick are good hosts. I enjoyed whiling away the odd hour at the bar with one or the other but watch out for those huge yellow horse... More

We stayed at RIo Bec Dreams for a few nights and loved it there. The owners Dianne and Rick are such warm helpful people. Nice to have someone to help you with ideas of where and what to do in the area. Our Jungalo was amazing with the special extras like wonderful fluffy towels and comfortable beds. We had the... More

This is one of few places to stay in the vicinity, and as the reviews were mostly good we decided to pay the bit extra and stay for a few days over christmas. Rio Bec Dreams is right beside the main highway, making it nice and easy to find. The guards at the checkpoint a few miles to the east... More

We stayed in Sak Tzi, a 2-bedroom cabin fairly close to the reception area. (We weren't bothered by any road noise.) I have to say that we were impressed by Rick and Diane have done in the middle of the jungle. The cabins and 'jungalows' are scattered throughout the property via garden lined paths. The bedrooms were basic but cheery.... More

On our book-it-as-we-go-along honeymoon, we almost stayed at the pricey Puerta Calakmul but were put off by trip advisor reviews and opted for Rio Bec instead...so very glad that we did! This is a very special place, run by expats with a genuine fanatic interest in archeology who seem intent on improving the welfare of their staff and local community... More
