Discovered it while driving to the railway station from the highway (we were searching for the erstwhile Ginger, but that's changed hands and has doubled tarriff). Avalon is a new hotel with surprisingly posh interiors and rooms, possibly the best hotel in Durg (happy to be corrected here). Appears to be going through some teething troubles (the hot water takes a while to flow, the hotel had couple of buckets delivered to our room) and the front desk seemed surly, but that's easy to ignore in the rather nice room. However, it could explain why the hotel seemed empty and the manager had time to lounge in the lobby with a newspaper.
The restaurant is popular with local families and can spring pleasant surprises if you venture off the beaten track. We had a local fish (whose name I forget) that was rather well cooked.
