My husband and I stayed overnight at The George at the beginning of December 2011 whilst visiting the area with a view to purchasing a new home. We found the 'new' landlords welcoming and helpful...even making sure that the heating in our room was put on in plenty of time before our arrival. Yes I agree that the bathrooms would...

My partner and I had moved to the area a year ago and had never visited before due to hearing the food wasnt up to standards. So we decided to go last night for a drink as we had been to most other local pubs and wanted to try somewhere new. As soon as we walked in we were greated...

Living in the village of Chardstock, the local pub along with the church and village shop is the hub of the village. Go back 8 months and it was a disaster and had been for a good number of years.
However; the place has transformed itself in the last 6 months and is fast gaining a well deserved reputation for...

The new owners are friendly, helpful and courteous. The pub food is very good indeed and the atmosphere on a wet October evening was very welcoming. The room was OK, the bed comfortable and the linen good quality cotton. Decoration in the bathroom will be improved in the future I am sure. A real English pub!

The landlords are new apparently, but the building is lovely and old and would make most architecture buffs coo with delight. The staff are obviously new, but friendly and welcoming, and we...

An historic thatched pub in a delightful village. Great cask ale, excellent food and caring helpful hosts. Yes, the rooms are due for a refurb but at present they are comfortable and have all you can need for a short stay. Taken in the round, all six of my family enjoyed the stay at the George and would recommend it...

Thankfully we didn't take any notice of the old out of date reviews. My wife and I stayed her for two nights at the beginning of August 2011. The new owners are now in their ninth week of occupancy. Our upstairs room was fairly small with a new 4 foot 6 inches bed. All the bed linen was new and...

We had originally booked in for two nights but we checked out as soon as possible the next morning. Had we arrived earlier in the evening we would not have stayed even the one night but it was too late to start looking for alternative accoamadation.
The room was disgustingly filthy, dirty bedding, filthy bathroom, windows with broken catches so...
