We stayed in Thunder Bay for 2 nights in May 2013 (in the Manor Room). It had a view of the Sleeping Giant and at night you could hear the gentle rumbling of McVicar Creek (the ran along the B&B). Within walking distance to many great restaurants. The hosts (Dorothy & Tom) were very friendly. The best was comfortable and... More

Only good things to say about McVicar Manor and it's owners. My husband and I stayed three days at this centrally located property while visiting family in Thunder Bay. We had the en suite McVicar Room with it's own balcony. After sleeping in a comfy bed and hot shower (with Body Shop products), Dorothy would present us with a variety... More

My husband and I stayed here this past February. This pictures of the house online looked nice, but once we were inside the B&B, we were really able to appreciate its beauty. Our room was very luxurious and clean. The hosts were very friendly and had lots of information/recommendations to share about Thunder Bay. We especially enjoyed the breakfast. We... More

I stayed there three nights and absolutely everything was terrific. Start with the front door, a masterpiece, the likes of which aren't made any more. Once the door open, there's the hubbie and wife team (retired teachers) who greet you as if you're an old friend. The house is a spacious old mansion owned by a former coal baron. It... More

We recently booked all 4 rooms. The rooms are all lovely, with great mattresses and pillows. Lovely bathrooms! The house itself has great rooms and wonderful porches and gardens to spend the afternoon relaxing. Breakfast was delicious, Dorothy and Tom wonderful hosts. I would only as them to consider a king size bed for the huge suite at the front... More

We are from Minnesota, and we brought a friend from England with us. We all thought the breakfasts were elegant and delicious, and the home is beautifully maintained and decorated. The mansion is in close proximity to the lake and many fine downtown restaurants. Tom and Dorothy are very good hosts, and we can't wait to return. Pat and Al... More

Dorothy and Tom Walch run one of the very best B&B's we've ever experienced anywhere. It's almost worth the trip to Thunder Bay just to stay with them. The house is spacious and beautiful, rooms are impeccable, and food is superb. The Walches really take care of you too. They are gracious hosts, and fun to talk to. Do yourself... More

My husband daughter and I stayed at McVicar manor for 5 days. We were attending a family wedding. As we were greeted at the door, Tom and Dorothy made us fell like family. As a matter of fact we are family, our son married their daughter, while we were visiting. This is not just any B&B, the walsh's have brought... More

My husband and I spent two nights here on a recent trip to Lake Superior region. Everything was wonderful here. The gardens are a true delight. The breakfasts were delicious. We were in two different rooms since we reserved late but that went very well. Both rooms were very nice. Excellent hospitality and we will be back if we travel... More

The author and motivational speaker Charles Swindoll wrote what many people in all walks of life acknowledge ... that "the difference between something good and something great is attention to detail." Dorothy and Tom's generous hospitality and respect for their guests is reflected in this 'gift of attention': the bathroom has everything that you may need including quality products from... More
