The Fireside Lodge was recommended to my friend and I by a guide on one of Whistlers many attractions - the Ziptrek Ecotour. This place is also briefly mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide to Canada but deserves a stellar review.
I got the impression that in peak season the rates would skyrocket because the facilities provided at about $35 per night were excellent. Firstly, security is obviously a priority for staff who closely monitor access card usage. The dorm rooms (4 beds each) while a touch cramped, are actually cosy and provide heaps of storage. The laundry and bathroom facilities were well above average and were also clean. The kitchen appears to have recently undergone a massive upgrade and are second to none: apart from being spacious, the cupboards and clearly marked and are all stacked with every kitchen item and utensil imaginable. My husband and I stayed at Fireside Lodge for 3 nights in one of the private rooms. There are rooms with double beds and rooms with dorm-style set ups. The showers and bathrooms are shared and plentiful.

Shoes are removed and stored in the mud room as you enter. There's a game room with pool and ping pong table on the first floor, along with the laundry room, men's showers, and one women's toilet and shower. The other women's toilets and showers are on the second floor. This is also where the kitchen, dining area, living room, and some of the bedrooms are located. On the third floor, are the men's rooms and a small toilet.

There's a gravel parking lot and a bit of an uphill walk via stairs or gravel path up to the lodge.

The lodge is in Nordic Estates which is an easy bus ride #2 Whistler Creek route to and from Whistler Village or Creekside. $2 one way per adult.
