After entering the room we noticed a musty smell...we went to the front desk immediately and asked to be switched,,,we were told that there were no vacancies...an obvious lie since we realized eventually that the resort was almost empty! Traveled the third week of October for a week. The property is badly in need of upgrading. Lots of signs of water damage in the hallways and signs of mould in the bathroom. We traveled during the off season where there are less crowd. However, there are more locals (higher rate of Mexicans from nearby towns like Guadalajara, etc.) than foreigners. Puerto Vallarta has a calmer ambiance and leans toward a more provincial resort setting than Cancun which offer both 'the city " & beach resort." Downtown is about 25 mins by taxi... more
