First room was with stains of mould in the bathroom. We went to reception and asked to change the room. Not only the receptionist did not know the word "mould", he also did not know the word "sorry". First reply was "no rooms". Then he offered us "good room", which turned out to be exactly the same, but only on... More

We stayed here because there was a convention at the MACAY and Olimpo we were attending, so it was within walking distance. In fact, it is within walking distance of TONS of restaurants, shops and attrations, and a short taxi ride to many more. However, we did not get the rate we were promised for staying in the hotel the... More

Merida is a very different place. The architecture, people, climate, food were all a suprise and exciting. The hotel, El Castellano was 1 - 3 blocks from all of the Central historic district of Merida. Walk to restaurants, shops, squares, universities, and there are free social activities every single night. The only small, tolerable kink was the nightclub sounds on... More

El castellano is not fancy but it's a very nice place to stay. I was happy with it's location and that my family and I had the blessing to see such a beautiful town. Thank you. More

I have no idea how hotels get their "star" ratings, but I doubt I have ever stayed in a real 5 star hotel...closest thing for me would be the Marriott in San Juan, PR. As hotels go, I would rate this place OK. The price was right. About 750 Mexican pesos, about $58. We had a decent sized room with... More

We were very disappointed with this timeshare exchange to this hotel/Royal Resort. We were a family of five (couple, 2 children and a mother in law). The unit, a two bedroom (101A & B) was barely adequate. See the previous reviews as to awkward lay-out. When we checked in I asked about placement in a 2 bedroom (1 bedroom with... More

My partner and I stayed one night at this hotel and we were very pleased with it. Our room was clean and smart, the food was ok, the staff was generally helpful, and the pool made a nice shady retreat from the busy town. The location is very good as it is only a 10 minute walk tops to the... More

This is a fairly large (for Merida), somewhat characterless, modern-ish hotel. It is only a couple of blocks from the core of downtown (the area seemed fairly safe during the day and at night). We stayed one night, because we drove from Cancun and saw Uxmal the next day, then back to Cancun. The rooms were OK, but the beds... More

We were booked into this hotel by Thomas Cook's Yucatan agents. Although close to the centre, we found the place to be rather run-down and characterless. Also, some of the waiters were somewhat grumpy and unfriendly. What really upset us, though, was that the hotel had an open-air nightclub directly under our room. Even though we were seven floors above... More
