Casa Na Bolom (House of the Jaguar) is a museum as well as a hotel. For 5 days and nights we enjoyed meals with archeoligists, Spanish students, Mayan patients at the clinic, and fellow travelers. The food was excellent, the rooms unique and beautiful and the environs of the City of San Cristobal de las Casas were breathtaking. more

We arrived late at night to San Cristobal and went directly to Na Bolom w/no reservation. The manager was so accomodating and helpful. I read some reviews that the rooms were overpriced. The history of this museum/hotel/restaurant is simply fascinating and their mission is inspiring. The grounds are lovely, and the rooms (with their own fireplace) are definitely charming. The staff is quite helpful, and it is really something else when you can experience the hotel as more than just a visitor for an hour or so. We had dinner one night... more

The beautiful grounds -- particularly the spacious forested gardens in the rear of the hotel -- make Na Balom worth a visit. However, it is a lot cheaper to stay in one of the nearby hotels and visit the grounds and museum during the day for the more reasonable entry fee.
