My family of four stayed here during Dia de Los Muertos celebration in CDMX. What an amazing opportunity. The location in Zocalo is very close to Independence Plaza with lots of food options, and shopping close by. Take advantage of the rate that includes breakfast, it is well worth it and very yummy. The only downside to this hotel is that there is no AC. This was not an issue for October, but I am not sure this would be the best option for a summer stay. Rooms do have large floor fans, and large picture windows that open, but those can only provide so much comfort.

This hotel is incredibly central in the historical district of CDMX. Small rooms but considering you spend the entire day out, it's a great and safe place to call base! Not ideal if you are traveling with a lot of luggage.

Another ripped off on booking. We decided to get a comfortable room on booking.com and the room we got was completely different by the one we aspected. Just the space for the bed and no windows! Unacceptable! We paid more than 4000pesos x 2 rooms for 2 nights. Beware. Unfortunately it wasn't me to make the booking but I'll never come back

Hotel Principal is a wonderful place to stay. My daughter and I came to Mexico City as a graduation present for her. The service is wonderful. The room and bathroom were very clean. The pictures on their website do not do the hotel justice. It’s charming and eclectic. The location is central to downtown. There is a cook-to-order breakfast and coffee every morning. If you want something light - fruit, toast, and cold cereal are also available. It is loud, however it can’t be helped. It faces Simone Bolivar and there are, of course, people and cars. This isn’t something that can be controlled by staff. With that said, Mexico City is huge! It is full of people, cars, and smells. There is noise everywhere. If there is one thing I would like to see change? More pillows or firmer pillows. I hope to come back here on 2022. Gracias to staff.

The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The rooms were very clean. Also, the location is on a very quiet street and close to everything you could possibly need or want. I hope to stay here again soon!

Went there to Iron Maiden’s concert and OMG! Fell in love with this hotel. Very historic and with a modern upgrade. Love the terrace and city view, we had a great party there with another guests. Close to everything and amazing service. Rooms are okay, small but good. We didn’t really stay in much so it was okay. Love the closeness to tourists places and the feeling to be safe and surrounded by history. Will definitely come back!!

We really liked this hotel even though remodeling was ongoing. The workers came in at 5am and made themselves known right away after a short talk with the manager they were very respectful and were quiet they next several days that we were there! This is an awesome location! A short cab ride to the Museums, the cathedrals, the shopping centers, the restaurants and the night life. We had a family room 3 beds in a large room and 1 queen size bed in a connecting room. Only 1 bathroom but two sinks. We were able to manage getting ready every morning and evening! No fridge, microwave or coffee pot. But the nearby restaurants were open early enough for full breakfast and coffee not to mention most of the bakeries were open some even 24 hours! Again the key is location! We found a karaoke bar and had a great time singing and Imbibing tequila and beers. The DJ really got into the singing and we had a great time!! There was even a band playing in a side street that played Chuck Berry songs for us as we are from St Louis!! Again location of this hotel is key!! The room is comfortable and very clean. The room came with breakfast in the upstairs top floor overlooking Calle Bolívar. Breakfast was great and very filling. You will not be disappointed!

Walking distance to almost everything. Many choices on transportation. Very nice location. Was an old building very high ceilings. Basic customer service. It is a great choice for the price. Specially if you are walking.

We book two rooms for our family, we get to the hotel and from the first minute we felt like an inconvenience. Staff are not friendly at all, we speak a little Spanish, which didnt help at all because when you tried to talk to them they either talk to fast or pretended not to understand me. One of the staff actually would work with us. The rooms didnt get cleaned until the third day we were there after I complained. Cleaning staff are still cleaning rooms at 5pm with laundry all over the hallway floors. On our last day we watched a Spanish speaking couple sign in and promptly were helped with there bags up the elevator. Not the service we got at all. Would not recommended it at all but the location is good for walking and it was pretty cheap. Just dont expect anything at all and you will be okay

This century old hotel is in the perfect location in Zocalo; walking distance to the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Palace, and Templo Mayor in La Plaza de La Constitution on one end of Calle Maduro (1 block from the hotel) and Torre LatinoAmericano and Palacio des Belles Artes on the other. The hotel is immaculate, it’s super convenient to shopping, excellent food, and dozens of museums all in the old historic downtown which is beautiful. The hotel is historic; it’s four floors with 2 elevators open up to a traditional Spanish courtyard. The roof is glass and you can see the clock from Torre Latinoamericano. It has lush plants all around, and the rooms are updated and modern. The weather in Mexico City is rarely hot or cold. Because the temperature is always mild, there rooms do not have air conditioning; only a louvered vent above the doors for ventilation. Trust me, so far it’s all good. The hotel itself is wonderful, in an excellent location, and despite no air conditioning it’s very comfortable. The price is a bargain too with some rooms with shared bath going for as low as $11.00. My room which had an en suite bath was a little over $25.00 night. But there is a problem. A big loud problem. Noise. Remember the glass roof? It creates an echo chamber. Remember the louvered vents? It permits all those sound waves to flow right into your room. You hear every loud drunk group coming in at 3:00 am, every suitcase rolling on the tile floor at 5:00 am, and couples being intimate at all hours of the day and night. If you want to have a siesta in the middle of the day forget it. There is construction going on nonstop from about 10:00am-8:00 pm except for Sunday. I lived in this hotel for a month in August and I loved it except for the noise. I’m not convinced I would stay here again, and I’m not sure I would not. If you sleep like a stone grab this hotel; it’s perfect. If you’re a light sleeper bring earplugs (difficult to find in CDMX), sedatives, and a sound machine, and anything else you can think of. If you need serious quiet, I suggest you go to a modern hotel elsewhere in the city. In a nutshell it’s a delightful, clean, historic hotel in the best location in historic downtown. But the noise, the noise, the noise.
