Rooms are simple and clean. Beautiful little interior courtyard with mining equipment depicting Guanajuato's roots as a silver mine city. All the rooms look out onto this. We had 3rd floor room in the corner that was decorated with self portraits of artist Frida Kahlo. Looked out over courtyard and you could hear the doves roosting in the eaves. No... More

We selected this hotel for the parking... - rooms very clean, bathroom a bit old but very clean too. - hot shower - comfortable bed - breakfast included (good) - parking free - friendly and helpful staff looks ordinary from the street but it is pretty, nice inside courtyard a bit far from the main areas (Jardin Union, Theatre Juarez)... We heard about this hotel from a local Guanajuato resident. My wife and I, along with our two boys, stayed in it -- initially selecting it for the value. Children under a certain age are free, parking is free, and breakfast was included, and the price was still way less than many others. It looks unimpressive from the street --... More

It is a quiet place but it was kind of far from the main areas. The food in the restaurant is good though. My hubby and I paid for a room with breakfast and we noticed that the prices are the same or lower if we would had just purchaced the room without the breakfast. What really dissapointed us was... Nice rooms, comfortable beds, helpful staff. It is a bit far from the center - 15-20 min on foot - which means you can actually sleep at night. More

I read the reviews and was a little worried when my group traveling to GTO decided to use this hotel. First, remember this is Guanajuato - a beautiful, wonderful, historical city - and there is no Ritz here. First the bad (which I would actually call the "to be expected") -poor water pressure -slow and unreliable hot water -no air... More

My family and I stood at this hotel for two days. Also keep in mind that this hotel use to be an old mine and upon entering the hotel you do feel like you are entering into a mine shaft, dark, gloomy and cold. The rooms are small and not very well lit. No air conditioning only ceiling fans, no... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Socavon in March 2004 after we read the recommendation in Fodor's Guidebook, and we were also lured in by the low price. The hotel is WAY out of downtown, a good 20-25 minute walk up a dirty and very busy street with no ambience or charm whatsoever. The hotel is dark and dingy... More
