Just returned from a stay at the Gecko House on St John. Charming cottage overlooking fish bay. Sunrise on patio deck every morning. Nice bathroom, kitchen and washing machine. There are only 2-3 resort hotels on the island and tend to be pricey. As the island is not very large we opted to stay private rental, stay longer and explore the island ourselves. Andrea and Joel were great hosts. Andrea also provided plenty of towels and beach chairs. If you’re looking for an island experience in a peaceful setting, you can’t go wrong with the Gecko House. Andrea recommended renting a Jeep. At first I thought that it might be overkill but it was definitely the right choice- roads on St John are narrow with steep inclines and switchbacks. Driving is on the left. Just a few minutes to Cruz bay and about 20 minutes to the north end beaches. All beaches are free except Trunk Bay which costs $5 per person per day. Photo of sunrise from Gecko House balcony.…

We just returned from our trip to St John and the whole trip was made that much more fabulous by our stay rather Gecko House. The house was beautiful and decorated with unique island decor. It definitely felt like our home away from home (except that our actual home doesn't have a marvelous hot tub or beautiful views of the mountains and the Caribbean!). It made for a perfect honeymoon! Unfortunately the owners were not there during our stay, they seem great and it would have been nice to meet them; but they did have someone available for us to contact if necessary. Overall we couldn't have been more pleased and hope to return again (and would, without question, stay at the Gecko House again). Thank you so much for sharing your piece of paradise with us!

Stayed at Gecko House the last week of 2016. Owners live on site right next door. Everything worked out great and the owners were very helpful with suggestions for places to visit on the Island. Fish Bay is a great location for quick trips into Cruz Bay or 15-20 minute drives to the north shore beaches or about 30 minutes to places farther out like Coral Bay. The guest house at Gecko House is great - best thing is the screened in deck - we spent every morning there for sunrise breakfasts and evenings for a relaxing end to the day.

We've just returned from a great week on St. John, and our stay at Gecko House made the trip even more special than we could have imagined. The house is very private, yet close to everything we wanted to do! We spent lots of time in Cruz and Coral Bays hiking, snorkeling, and being lazy on the beach and found Gecko House to be a perfect spot for our home base. Every morning we woke up to a gorgeous sunrise over Fish Bay and enjoyed coffee on the comfortable screened-in porch (and had drinks there every evening). The porch is so large it's like having an extra room! The house had everything we needed - a great tiny kitchen with a blender, coffee-maker, and coolers/chairs/towels for the beach. Andrea and Joel were fabulous hosts and were very helpful. We will absolutely be back!

We found Gecko House ideally located for exploring the island of St.John. A short drive took us to Cruz Bay for groceries and restaurants and the National Park for its' beautiful beaches, snorkeling and hiking. Gecko House provided us with a peaceful place to relax with a great view of Fish Bay. The screened porch was where we spent our mornings. We loved looking below to the garden that Andrea and Joel created. The cottage was extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. Guidebooks with places to visit as well as suggested restaurants were provided. Joel and Andrea were always available to answer questions, make suggestions and provide directions. We enjoyed the opportunity to spend some time with them and some of their friends. We left cold Ohio for sunshine and relaxation. We gained much more by staying at Gecko House with hosts Andrea and Joel.…

Our stay at Gecko House was based on trip advisor reviews. I liked the personal touches mentioned in each of those. Gecko House lived up to our expectations. This is a sweet and very small house. A single room with a bath in a studio setup that works very well. The view is breathtaking -- over Fish Bay -- and the sunsets each day are just gorgeous. The furnishings are modern and the house is neat and clean. Gecko House is totally functional and Andrea makes sure that everything is kept current and working. She is also an excellent St John guide who truly cares about her beautiful island and cares about the welfare and comfort of her guests. There are lots of steps to and from Gecko House, so this should be taken into consideration. Even getting to the hot tub is three sets of stairs up and down. And the driveway up to the house from the road is like the rest of the roads on St John -- interesting. We rented a Jeep Wrangler and we are glad we did. The key question: Would we go back? Absolutely! We made some new friends there and we felt at home. Thank you Andrea, Ann, Jim and Doug.…

My wife and I spent two weeks on St. John, with a week in Coral Bay and a week at Gecko House. As small as the island is, we had totally different experiences and both were totally enjoyable. Gecko House was a perfectly comfortable home and Andrea and Joel were wonderful hosts. We especially appreciated the close easy access to Cruz Bay which allowed us to sample the night-life, yet have an easy drive back home after dark. The cottage itself had all the amenities we needed and then a little more. We were surprised how much we enjoyed the hot tub in the tropical climate, providing a perfect place for star-gazing, enjoying the garden, and relaxing weary muscles after a challenging St. John hike. Before arriving we questioned whether we would like having a screened porch rather than a deck but it was great - very private and you still felt like you were outside with a great view of Fish Bay. Although the cottage is close to the main house, they are situated in such a way that it is still very private. Andrea and Joel always respected our privacy but were handy if we needed some equipment, directions or recommendations. Andrea even arranged a sailing trip with friend Ken and they joined us for a fun day of sailing and snorkeling. We plan to return in the future, hopefully for a longer stay.…

Gecko house is gorgeous! It is perfectly equipped with everything you may need to feel right at home. You really get a true sense of what it must be like to live on the island. I also cannot say enough good things about Andrea and Doug! From the time we arrived in St. John, to the time we left they went above and beyond in making sure my husband and I had everything we needed to feel right at home. They were always easily available if we needed anything...even if it was just some good beach recommendations. If you are looking for a clean, affordable, gorgeous, peaceful place to vacation, Gecko House is the place for you! We will definitely be back in the future!!

My girlfriend and I lucked out in finding this little gem on St. John. Gecko House was our home base for five days while we explored the islands trails, bays and beaches. Andrea, the owner, was so nice and super helpful if we had questions about the apartment or the island. The apartment itself had everything we needed - and then some. The view of nearby Fish Bay from the screened-in porch was wonderful (gazing at the view while sipping our morning coffee became our early morning ritual). And we ended each night in the very well-maintained hot tub - relaxing and looking up at the night sky (we saw a couple shooting stars one night). Considering that this little slice of paradise came at what seemed to us a very affordable price compared with other options on the island, Gecko House would certainly be our first choice the next time we find ourselves on St. John.…

This was an amazing trip for my wife and I. We came here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and had a completely amazing time. Make sure you connect with The Whistler if you want someone local who can show you all the best food and snorkeling spots; also, if you like good music, then you will love his folksy blues and country rock. Every day and night was really like a dream for us, and when we came back here to Philly...well, we are still dealing with sadness over having to leave. If you can, stay for more than a week. We only had a week to spare but would have happily stayed for another two if we could have. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and has faster Internet than my crappy Comcast set up at home! I expected to have to deal with bugs and maybe it was the weather, but I left without a single mosquito bite. Now, sand fleas on the other hand...they got me at the beach but that is to be expected. Andrea has a great little fantasy spot here, and I can't help but feel all choked up when I remember the beautiful, peaceful view from the balcony - moonlight on the water, the sound of waves, and the complete absence of all the noise here in the city. It did wonders for our marriage and we played together like children. Do it. That's all I have to say. Oh, and give Doug (The Whistler) and Lacey a hug and kiss from The Martin's!…
