We stayed at the Ocean Pearl for 2 fantastic weeks. We loved the villa and strongly disagree with the reviews that complained about A/C only in bedrooms and no screens in upper floor french doors. We have rented much more expensive villas than this one on St. John and what you should understand is that "A/C only in bedrooms" is a common setup regardless of level of villa. Plus, open-air living (i.e. no screens in living area) is par for the course on the islands. We opened the French doors every morning to enjoy the tropical breezes and nice scenery and to turn the upper floor into an outdoor living space. Also, some complained that the only way to the pool from the kitchen and cooking area was the indoor spiral staircase, but they failed to mention the regular staircase on the outside of the villa that is easily accessible and connects the upper and lower levels. But enough about prior reviews…On to our review.... Positives: - GREAT location. Only 5 minutes to Cruz Bay (town), only 10-15 minutes to North Shore beaches, and only 100 yards off of the main road. - GREAT pool. Pool is large enough to swim in and varies from 3-5 feet deep. - Nice landscaping. Pool is framed by two magnificent Royal Palms. The palms provide nice shade for portions of the pool and deck area and are beautiful. Beautiful tropical flowers and ficus trees also. - Few bugs. Comparatively speaking, bugs were not a problem. Very few mosquitoes, perhaps due to proximity to the Westin Resort (right next door) where they spray for mosquitoes. - Private. Even though this was close to town, the location, especially the pool, is very private. - Flat screen TV with DVD. - Full and fully equipped kitchen. Negatives: - Rough driveway. A portion of the driveway was dirt & rocks. However, the 50 yards of “4 wheeling” each day kind of grew on us (fun). - A little bit of road noise due to proximity to main road, but really not a big deal. - Low water flow in shower. - No internet access. Would have been a nice touch.

We stayed at the Ocean Pearl Villa (rented via Caribbean Villas) in late June and I thought this information would be helpful to people looking to rent a villa. It was the perfect size for two adults and two kids and we enjoyed having a small pool to play in after returning from a day at the beach. However, the lack of air conditioning in the main rooms (there was air conditioning only in the bedrooms) and lack of screens on the three sets of french doors was a major problem. The "room cooling ocean breezes" were nonexistent on most days, and I think that's the case all year given the villa's location. And we were eaten alive by mosquitos since there were no screens on the french doors. The main living area had ceiling fans and the owners provided two additional fans - all of which were going nonstop. I find it hard to believe that one or two additional air conditioning units would use more electricity. We spent all day at the beautiful beaches, but when we returned in the late afternoon, the only place we could hang out and relax was in the bedrooms. Bottom line - We loved staying in a private villa with a pool, Caribbean Villas was wonderful to work with, but we will not stay at this villa again. Many villas advertise air conditioning in the bedrooms only. If you are considering one, know that it is difficult to spend any time in the villa (even at night) without sweltering or dealing with bug bites.
