Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel is perfectly situated on one of the best leather-back turtle viewing beaches in the world. There are other turtle-watching sites in northern Trinidad, but Grande Riviere can't be topped for numbers of turtles and the fact that you won't be swamped with a zillion other people (as you could be at Matura). The beach right off the... My fiancé and I stayed here at the beginning of the nesting season. Upon arrival around 4:30 pm, we were greeted by a turtle laying her eggs on the beach. It was an impressive reception after the long tricky drive to Grande Rivière! We originally booked a room on the ground floor and the receptionist recommended that we take a look... More

Mt Plaisir Estate Hotel in Grande Riviere, Trinidad and Tobago offers a unique vantage point from which to see the leatherback turtle laying their eggs egg. The only accommodation in the area located right on the beach (location, location, location!), you can sit back in your Adirondack/Muskoka chair and have a clear view of the beach and pounding surf. It... More

The first floor bedrooms are very nice, made in local natural timber, with wide balcony that looks out across the sandy beach where the turtles nest. You can while away hours here. We saw leatherbacks every day when visiting in April. There is no reef so the sea can be lively & it is mostly sand underwater. There is no... More

Getting to Grand Riviere is not for the faint hearted. It is only two hours from Port of Spain but it really is away-from-it-all in the Rain Forest. Like stepping into another age. The hotel is rustic and very adequate but not for people who like glitzy hotels. The bedrooms are charming with mosquito covered beds and balconies onto the... More

Having no plans for Easter's long week-end, we booked at this place on a short notice. Due to heavy traffic we were late for our check-in time so they called us to check if we were all right and still coming. Upon arrival, the staff, mostly ladies, were very nice, friendly and helpful. It's remote so we had all our... More

The largest nesting ground for leather back turtles has one guardian who has gone without recognition for years. This is Piero Guerrini. After an epic encroachment of the Grand Riviere river, which happens naturally about every 15 years, the beach is back and the turtles too. ThCoeco resort is also going through another form of renaissance in the likes of... More

I have stayed at Mt. Plaisir (rustic and layed back) over the past 4 years and it is one of my favourite places in the world. You fall asleep to the sound of the surf. In turtle season (April to July) up to 300 leatherback turtles emerge from the ocean to nest on the beach. Pierro (owner of Mt. Plaisir)... More

Came here in April 2012 as a party of 5 (4 adults with a 14 month old baby). The drive here takes a while along the winding Toco roads, but you get some great views of the beaches and the Caribbean meeting the Atlantic. Not the best road to drive during the rainy season, so be mindful of when you... More

Our stay at Mt Plaisir was excellent. We were looking forward to having a quiet and lazy weekend as we were extremely exhausted, and boy we were not disappointed. The room was absolutely beautiful and the view was amazing. Our room was air conditioned and we had no mosquitoes or sand flies, the bed was like heaven to me and... More
