The Barcelo is an average hotel with some excellent qualities, and some issues. I had an excellent vacation even with some of the limitations of the hotel. The rooms are huge. I have been to the Puerto Plata hotels various times. This hotel was recommended by quite a few people. Mostly, everything was as you would expect if you are familiar with the hotels in this area. Shame about the heat though, as it's the one thing that couldn't be controlled, and boy..was it hot!
