This hotel is rated as the most elegant in the Roseau Valley, which is four miles east of the capital of Roseau. We did not stay there but took a tour of the gardens -$10 and well worth it- and had dinner there, after the concierge claimed that it was "the best resteraunt" on hte island nation of Dominica. FALSE.... More

It just wouldn't be appropriate to write anything negative about this place. Sure, the accomodations are basic; our bed was actually uncomfortably hard. No TV, no phone in the room (what blessing!). We found a fridge, a coffee maker (but no coffee), and plenty of bottled water. But the location (in the middle of a botanical garden/rainforest) is difficult to... More

The only guests in the first half of december, so we were luckky and got the top room with a private terrace for a few dollars more than the other rooms. It certainly was worth it. A big, beautiful room, and no power station noice mentioned by some other reviewers (but this might be a problem depending on the room's... More

We arrived from Barbados, which is where we live and most people think of as Paradise, but Papillote is truly the Garden of Eden. Built into the slope of a green mountain, it has few enough rooms that you can feel alone if you want to, while the restaurant is intimate enough that you can talk to other guests if... More

Stayed at Papillote Wilderness Retreat for three nights with my husband. We had a wonderful time. The grounds of Papillote with the plants and the hot springs are well worth the stay, really spectacular. The food is great, each night the menu changes. An added plus is each evening at dinner you most likely will see and chat with Anne... More

I highly recommend Papillote to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway that even comes with your own private paradise! The owner, Anne, takes a very hands on approach to all aspects of the hotel- and she can be seen every night dining with her guests. It is very refreshing to see an owner that takes the time to greet all... More

Papillote Wilderness Retreat is one of those severely underated places that you stumble upon by accident, but once you've found it, is a place where you want to go back to year after year. The setting is absolutely beautiful, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. More

It is difficult to explain what is more attractive to Papilliota, the tropical garden ,the various suites, the restaurant, the tropical garden, the hot en cold mineral pools or the friendly people. It made our stay unforgettable. Do not expect a tv in your room, but experience the quietness and the birds songs of the tropical garden. No aircocndition but... More

I stayed at Papillote during November, and I had a wonderful time. It has a lovely rainforest setting, and lovely hot pools. The staff cannot be blamed for the climate (it rains a lot in Dominica which makes it so lovely and green), and neither can they be blamed for the Trafalgar Hydroelectric Station and the noise from its turbines... I've visited Papillote at various times since the mid 1990s. On this trip, I was relieved to find it the same miraculous haven from the stereotypical Caribbean vacation. Papillote doesn't offer vats of rum punch, white sand beaches, and 300 thread count sheets. It does offer a beautiful natural setting (it's just down the hill from astonishing waterfalls), a subtly... More
