The price nearly put us off but so pleased to have chosen the overnight trip. Bear viewing was exceptional and the service friendly and attentive. Arranged salmon fishing in the evening for us which was a real bonus. Cannot speak highly enough of the people, place or experience.

The experance begain on landing on the beach in a small plane with a bear walling past us after landing. The lodge is wonderful inside with all kinds of history, animals, & art, etc. The hosts are wonderful people James & Shelia. At this time, the guides, cook, etc. go out of their way to make your stay inside &... More

The lodge is clean and cozy, the hosts gracious and helpful, the food healthy plentiful and varied. Our six nights flew by with wonderful days guided on the beach and river to view coastal brown bears clamming, fishing and grazing. Fishing was also available. Covering lots of terrain is easy while sitting in a passenger wagon behind an ATV. Loads... More

We thought a lot about where to go to see wild bears safely. Fortunately, we chose Alaska Homestead Lodge. Sheila and James were warm and lovely hosts and Scott was a fantastic guide. The food was homestyle and served family style. It was tasty and abundant, although understandably, not fine dining. The only small improvement I could suggest relate to... More

Would really like to say a big THANKYOU to James and Sheila the proprietors, Anna, Tommy, Trevor, Sage and Scott. Between the wonderful food, expert guiding to see the bears and warm shared by ALL this lodge ranks a Bucket list "place of places" to not only stay but to see Brown Bears. After 6 nights and a multitude of... More

My wife and I visited the Homestead Lodge in early July, and it was simply the best part of the 11 day vacation we took in Alaska. We visited four different national parks, and stayed in lodges at each, but our experience at the Homestead was the most intimate and special. James and Sheila welcome you into their home as... More

As fiscally conservative, hard-working, middle-class Americans, you can bet your bottom dollar that we debated a long time about splurging on an overnight trip to Lake Clark National Park. For us, the balance tipped in favor of bear viewing with Homestead Lodge after reading travel excerpts on the incredible adventures of watching brown bears in their natural environment and the... My parents and I visited the Alaska Homestead Lodge in September of last year. This experience had to be one of the most incredible and memorable of my life. I have always wanted to see a wild brown/grizzly bear up close and personal and on their terms. Wow, this trip did not disappoint. We spent three days at the lodge... More

Where else could you see grizzlies in their natural habitat accompanied by outstanding professional guides, have comfortable accommodations, and excellent fresh caught salmon? We stayed five nights in early August, and had the experience of a lifetime. James and Sheila are wonderful hosts at their cozy well-built lodge. Three of us, including my 82 year old mom thoroughly enjoyed everything... More
