The trip to Katmai Nationalpark was the absolute highlight of our Alaska vacation. First of all the flight with the float plane - amazing. When landing on the lake we saw some bears strolling along the beach. The rangers were very friendly and helpful. We saw at least 18 bears at the falls - a great experience. We took a... more

The visit to Katmai was the highlight of our alaskan trip. The weather was pretty darn good and the bears were everywhere. I will focus my review on the whole experience - which is how I think you should approach a multi-day trip to brooks lodge. You are in the middle of nowhere and the only way to get their... more

As a location for viewing bears this cannot be beaten. It is absolutely amazing. Staying at Brooks lodge is very expensive. There are only only 16 rooms which are effectively individual cabins. These cabins take Rustic to the extreme! As you walk in to the cabin, you are presented with 4 bunk beds, each with military style bedding on them.... more

We stayed at Brooks Lodge for 3 nights mid-September 2008. We booked directly with Katmailand our flights from and back to Anchorage and our accommodation at the lodge about 11 months before our trip. We flew from Anchorage to King Salmon with Pen Air and then on a Katmai Air float plane to Brooks Lodge. On our arrival at 12:30... more

rooms are VASTLY different. even tho we made our reservations 2 years earlier and were told the accomodations were a 'cottage', actually we were in the middle of a totally uninsulated motel with noisy teens on 3 sides. there was no place to sit and read, the bunks were not secured and wobbled with every move...VERY poor and virtually no... more

I went to Katmai National Park to see the bears feeding on the salmon. I was not disappointed. This was one of the most exciting travel experiences I had. I took the day trip from Anchorage to Brooks Lodge. I tried to book the lodge for two nights accomodations but was told that a solo traveler had to stay in... more

How many superlatives are there? Can I click on excellent three times? This place is wonderful if you like nature. Accomodations are very basic food was sufficient and reasonably good- but what are you there for? The BEARS!!! Photographically it does not get better. You are on the loose with the bears and we had three encounters with mothers with... more

Definately a highlight of our Alaska vacation - but a few FYIs will take away the surprises. We booked with Katmailand both flight and room. While the outbound flight to King Salmon was on PenAir, the return flight was on Katmai Air (KatmaiLand's own plane) - a small Piper Navajo that has seen better days. There is no reason not... more

Exciting. Trip of a lifetime. Pricey, but worth every penny. Cabins have all the comforts, but are not plush or luxurious....who cares! You're essentially camping, and a bear may sleep 15 feet from your front door. If you are prissy, you won't like it. If you are adventurous, you'll be in heaven. Many of your fellow guests will be professional... more
