We've stayed here twice and were not disappointed either time. Yes, it is rustic but you don't go there for luxury accomodations. This is quite simply the most magical place on earth. Obviously the bear viewing is phenomenal. This year, we had just taken our luggage to our cabin and set out to visit the falls. I rounded the corner... More

3 days at Brooks Lodge watching bears in the wilderness. A great experience with good catering, friendly staff and very close to nature. Insects can be a problem on warm days. More

Before going we had read several reviews on here talking about the supposed poor quality of the rooms, expensiveness and lousiness of the food, lack of helpfulness from the staff, and various other supposed issues, but decided to go as it looked like all in all it was worthwhile for the great bear viewing opportunities. After being there, we have... More

From the time we landed at King Salmon from Anchorage to when we came back, we had nothing but the best experience with every single person that we came in contact with. Each one was not only very polite, but really seemed sincere about making sure that we were having a good time--- plus the food and amenitites were great... More

There are 2 types of rooms at the lodge. One type is a completely private, stand-alone cabin. The other is a cabin room that is part of a rowhouse of connected rooms. We stayed in the stand-alone cabin and had no problems at all. I think the bad reviews must refer to the other style of room. The room was... More

We visited Brooks Lodge in Katmai National Park for 3 days in late June. We lucked out with nearly ideal weather. The lodge people and NPS rangers are very friendly and helpful. The food at the lodge was surprisingly good, especially the dinners. As others have reported, the actual lodging is spartan, 2 sets of bunk beds in a small... More

As a lodge Brooks is not fancy, but then we weren't expecting it to be. We came for the bears, not the cabin! Yes, the cabins are a bit rustic, but were just fine and clean. You don't come here expecting to be pampered... if you come to be amazed by watching grizzles play in the water and walk through... More

We were at Brooks Lodge on July 25/26. As some have said, it seems over-priced for a dorm room with bunk beds until you grasp where you are. We hit it at the peak of the bears. We counted eight before we even got off our float plane. At one point there were 15 at or near the falls. I've... More

We had an amazing 2 days at Brooks Lodge. Yes, the rooms can be noisy, only have bunks and are best described as 'spartan'. But they were also clean, warm & had plenty of hot water. Food was plentiful & tasty, and where else in the world would you get to watch bears wander through your camp at breakfast? Lodge... More

As everyone has already said, the cabins at Brooks Lodge are the "bear" essentials. Also, the food is buffet, not much to choose from and about $20. Some people complain about the food being overyly priced but I have had worse right in Anchorage. For the price and how remote this place is, it is not bad. This is my... More
