We spent two memorable nights in Room 31, an end unit, which had a great view of the smoldering caldera. As with other hotels we've stayed in within the National Parks such as the crater rim cabins on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the ability to enjoy spectacular scenery at different times of the day or night and... We stayed at the Volcano House for one night whilst we explored the various craters in the area. The hotel was a good way through a thorough refurbishment so there was sadly no bar or restaurant available and some of the rooms were not finished. We stayed in a crater view room and the name is entirely appropriate. The view... More

Firstly, I didn't stay here, just came to browse the gift shop and grab some food. The location is amazing, so if you want to stay somewhere that overlooks the crater, this is awesome. It appears rustic and I don't know what I would expect room wise, but they're undergoing renovations so maybe that includes some updating and upgrading. Still...location.... More

We have always wanted to stay at Volcano House. Just the history of the house is amazing, and to think Mark Twain & Hawaii's last Queen stayed here. Be still, my heart!!!! The top rooms are the best, with bird's eye views of Halemau'mau crater & Pele's fire. We slept with the curtins open, because I could barely contain myself... More

We stayed in the cabins, in the campground at Volcano National Park. Incredibly comfortable bed, Warm, thick comforter, very clean sleeping area. There is one locked bathroom with a shower and toilet for all 8 cabins, which is very clean and new. We walked to the crater overlook and visitors center. This is a great, inexpensive option for camping with... More

This was our second stay in the Volcano house. Currently undergoing rennovations, we were so happy they started renting rooms again for our visit. We had a crater rim room...and the views of the crater with the glow from the caldera at night ....AMAZING! How many places can you lay in bed and look out into a volcanic crater....presently active,... More

Newly reopened, or rather, reopening in stages, our 2 night stay in one of the 8 rooms available was perfect for location. We saw volcano steam/smoke all day, and a red glow all night. The lodge in right across the street from the very helpful visitor center, and the back yard is on the Crater Rim Trail. First we were... More

Before I get into the detailed description, note to all considering booking here that "crater view" may be loosely defined. Technically, the hotel sits on the edge of the main crater, so any room that faces that way would have a "crater view". However, most people are probably hoping for that view that includes the Halemaumumu vent so that they... More

We were really happy to find the Volcano House open for reservations for March, and we visited at the end of the opening first week, under the Pardon Our Dust rates. While making reservations, when I asked for an upper floor, the reservations agent refused my request and insisted that there is only one floor. When I arrived, I found... More
