Spent two nights here at the end of October. Great Lodge. Great location. You pay for the location. It's worth it. Very charming hotel. Rustic. For the money another hotel in a different location would be a lot more posh but how many hotels are located on the rim of the Grand Canyon. The staff is very helpful and friendly.... more
El Tovar is located right at the South Rim. We stayed in a tiny, but clean room. We had been warned that the room wasn't big, and that was in deed true! But when you are at Grand Canyon, you don't spend a lot of time in your room, so it was fine. We dined at the El Tovar Dining... more
I had read other reviews and was anxious to find out for myself about El Tovar. For anyone who has complained I can't imagine why. You're at the Grand Canyon #1-that's an automatic WOW! It takes a lot of planning to get supplies in and out of that location so I expect to pay more. The convenience of being able... more
I booked this hotel two months prior our arrival and was only able to get a junior suite with no view of the canyon at the price of more than 300 dollars. At the time of the booking I also booked a dinner at the hotel restaurant and was given a 9:30PM reservation. When we arrived, we had problems to find... more
If you want to stay in an over priced hotel with rooms that are worse than a Motel 6 with paper thin walls and a staff that could care less about you then please stay here. My husband and I went here for one day on my 50th birthday trip...the one day turned into 3 when my husband got the... more
Surprisingly El Tovar had a few vacancies when we stayed in the middle of July. Our room on the top floor was small but well appointed, and as mentioned elsewhere there is no lift in the hotel. The quality of the food in the restaurant was good although on both nights of our stay main courses were barely lukewarm and... more
We stayed here in late April 2009 had 2 rooms a King room for my wife and I and 2 double bed room for our kids. When we stayed here light snow was falling and the lobby was packed with daytrippers from the train who were trying to stay warm. After the train left the hotel cleared out somewhat and... more
Because the location is so great they don't bother to upgrade the rooms which really need to be renovated. Bathrooms are bad - shower floods and sink taps are lousy. The hotel itself is crowded and the dining room way overpriced. So understaffed couldn't check in till practically evening. But if you must stay on the rim there really are... more
Had one of the worst hotel stays ever at El Tovar on October 26, 2009. This hotel has no right to charge such high rates considering it has no hotel security and untrained, unprofessional front desk staff. I found out they have no hotel security the hard way: while checking in someone stole my suitcase outside our room. We immediately... more
